I’m not tech savvy either so I asked my smart son. He suggested, and I ordered 2019 HP 17.3 HD +
Flagship Home and Business laptop.
It has3.9 GHz. 16 GB Ram. DVD. RW. WiFi. HDMI
Let me explain that a bit. First, I am not a Mac user, so that’s why I went with HP, if you like Mac, you have to shop for a Mac.
I wanted a big screen. This is big. You may want smaller. That would be less expensive too. This is 17.3”. Only get HD. HighDefinition. It is SSD— no spinning hard drive so it turns on fast. It has lots of memory. 16GB. Be sure you get one that has a DVD player because you will have resources that come on DVDs that you will have to download.
These have gone down in price since I bought. None of the computers come with decent cameras for zoom or Skype but they are not expensive. I bought a cute little one that is great! It is Jelly Comb Computer Camera. Webcam 1080P Full HD with built in microphone for Skype, video conferencing, recording, and streaming.
I got both the computer and camera on Amazon. The camera perches on top of the computer. I just leave it sit there.
Hope this gives you a starting point.
Good luck.
Thank you for being so detailed!! This is so helpful!!
I would think your district should help out.
I have an older HP that I still love! I highly recommend a Solid State Drive (SSD), my computer boots up quickly and functions without many delays.
I worried about not having a CD-rom drive so I included it in my customization, but in the 3 years I've had this laptop, I've used it maybe twice. 😂
It sounds like your district needs to buy you one
MacBook Pro
I love my MacBook, if you are having to produce videos for online, it’s a good choice. Our school sent us home with Dells but I just love my Mac and would use it all the time.
I’ve been looking for one, too! I’m trying to decide if getting one with a CD/DVD drive is a good idea as well.
My entire school uses Apple. I have my personal MacBook Air I use for school and I love it. It connect with my phone which makes airdropping easy. Everything is connected! I never found myself in six years of teaching wishing I had a CD player for it. If my resource came with a CD, It was usually for songs or audio books, and I used a CD player for that when needed.
My school also helped pay for part of the laptop. Since we are all Apple users, it’s also easier to airdrop files to other teachers.
Shouldn’t your school provide that??
My sons who are computer science majors told me the chromebook they give us is a piece of s*%#t
MacBook
Your district doesn’t provide you with a laptop? We are provided with an HP laptop, you’ll also need a reliable internet service.
