Since working from home has been so popular and will continue to be, is there tax deductions that can be done for that? Anybody on here successfully deduct a portion of your apt?

The vast majority of W-2 workers can't deduct unreimbursed employee expenses (effective through 2025). The Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA) eliminated unreimbursed employee expense deductions for all but a handful of protected groups.

I think the criteria for home office deduction requires it to be a completely separate, free standing structure to be deductible. Considering I WFH on my kitchen table, no i haven't. Also cant remember if that is an itemized deduction or above the line, either way it won't really make that much of a difference. 🤷‍♂️

Get a good tax guy/gal. Most of the folks on here are very conservative by nature. You’re better off taking aggressive tax advice from a professional.

Yea, lose the w-2 and become a contractor or self employed then you can deduct it

Trump excised that benefit in 2017. Corporations get to deduct office space tho.

Need advice:

I'm debating between a Deloitte USDC role as a Software Engineer for 100k + 5k bonus and a small but established private company for 110k, which is fully remote with no expectation that I have to move at some point. Health/Dental/Vision, 401k and PTO are pretty similar. I'm an experienced hire with ~5 years of relevant background and currently work on a small, independent team at a large aerospace company, so either job is going to be a bit different than what I know.

So I’m in industry from big 4, and a colleague with same yoe comes from MBB. High paying tech firm. I think I work harder and produce quality content at speed, but they can hold executive conversations that tend to impress senior stakeholders.

Big 4 produces work horses and MBB produces leaders. Also they could be a work horse too since I don’t have full visibility.

Anyone have similar experiences or do I just suck at executive stakeholder management?
