Foster now, adopt later when your lifestyle works. You can’t be sure you won’t go back to travel unless you completely switch fields and boarding your dog for 4 days a week is ridiculous and unfair to the dog
EY1 funny, I was just joking around how it’s either a dog or a bf at this point. I think in my case, bf might be easier 😂😂😂
Please don’t get a dog.
I know the appeal and comfort but it would be insanely damaging to a dog to form an attachment to you and be used to being around you all the time, to switch to having them boarded or alone for hours on end.
Things might not go back to Mon-Thu travel but if your work still had you go in for workshops rather than virtual (like many other companies are), it’s not a stretch to think that they are indeed anxiously waiting for travel to resume as soon as it’s safe.
No, do it. I put off buying a dog for 15 yrs because of my job and finally did it last November (live in SF). Best decision I’ve made in a looooog time.
Only if your family and friends are truly available to support. My boyfriend takes care of our dog when I travel and my parents dog sit for us when both of us are out of town for work. We also bring her to their house every couple of days so she feels comfortable there when we have to leave her overnight. My parents will feed her leftover filet mignon and even let her sleep in bed with them. She is spoiled rotten but overall a super happy and well-adjusted dog!
Love that. She sounds like she’s a happy girl

Why not foster short term first to see if you really want a dog?
But in any case, seems like a reasonable decision. I don't think we'll be back to serious travel anytime soon and you've mentioned that you have dog care support.
Just make sure you are being realistic though. The dog will get really used to you being around all the time and going back to a travel schedule will be rough for you both. Also, it would be a lot to ask other people to help for 75% of the week. Is it even your dog at that point?
True.
Continued.....My friends have recommended fostering pe dog sitting through Rover, but I honestly just want a permanent BF/furry roommate. I have my eye out on a 12 lb Yorkshire terrier because I live in a studio in Chicago. Figured I could just carry him with me everywhere haha.
What makes it work for me - make sure you can take your dog on the plane with you, can find dog friendly places to stay and that you have enough options to avoid leaving your dog at home alone all day (come home for lunch, have someone walk them, etc)
