What do you exactly mean D2?

Define personal time?

I spend my personal time doing things I truly enjoy. My biggest passion is consulting. If this is a chore for you, maybe you should find a career in something you truly enjoy.

You know why people promote the idea of finding a career in something you love? Because then it isn't work.

You might do everything in your power to get away from the client, from responsibilities, from work related tasks and ideas.

If you had a career in something your truly enjoyed, then work wouldn't be a negative aspect of your life, it would be a positive.

I guess you can't relate to me because I enjoy what I do. I look forward to showing up every morning. I love team dynamics. I enjoy making a difference for my client. I enjoy contributing to the success of my firm.

So, do I not "have a life" simply because we have different passions?

πŸ€”

PwC 10, I agree. I always draw on things I do outside of work to build relationships within work. In all seriousness, commonalities in hobbies and interests break through to coworkers and clients in ways that pay dividends down the road. Having life experiences and being interesting makes you likable and being likable helps you credibility as long as you are good at what you do.

Ignore the call and have fun. It's your life and your free time. You will burn out if you don't enjoy your life. And, don't hesitate to answer right in the middle of the concert. I did that at for a (nonwork) important call that I didn't want to take. The caller got an earful of metal and I didn't get a call back until the next day at a more appropriate time.

@D1: You can have a satisfying career without taking work calls in your downtime.

@D1: It's a Friday night. We aren't paid like doctors, and our contracts don't state that we're on call like doctors. If you want to sacrifice your personal time, don't make others feel bad about prioritizing having a life πŸ™„

@D1 - how the fuck do we work for the same company? And who the fuck are you to decide that your teammates must always be available for you, regardless of time or day? You have to acknowledge that you're calling the person after business hours and they might have plans. Do you get more angry at the person for not calling you back or do you get angry at them for saying "Hey, I'm happy to help, but I'm walking into a concert or a play or dinner with my spouse/family/etc. and will be offline for the next few hours. I can take it up when I get back online, though." All levels of firm have lives and it isn't a normal expectation for Manager and above to have time off and staff to be available at our beck and call.

like

@D1: you must be real fun at parties. We aren't 'on call' All the time. Plenty of salaried workers in a 'career' don't work through the weekend. If there was no expectation to have weekend availability then why should he sit around and wait for a call? Everyone is allowed to have lives. Go have a drink.

Reply via text, asking if it's urgent and advise that you can't talk right now because u are at a concert

Respond. How do you even know it's work related? Maybe he wants to kick it.

And if it is work related, and you aren't excited to talk about some new development, then consulting isn't for you. This is a career, not some 9-5 job you wash your hands from Friday afternoon.

Pretty sure your manager is sitting behind you at the bar and seeing how you would react.

Hey @D1, I totally understand you man. You must the type of person that just stares at his phone waiting for someone to call, or just stares infront of his outlook just waiting for an email to pop up. I admire your determination and we need more people like you in the workforce. We wouldn't have the need to replace humans with robots if we had your type of attitude. I really want to learn from you so could you please advice how to stay up all night staring at my outlook without sleep? Sleep is also not needed I believe because it wastes 6-8 hours of productivity so I hope to get some input from you!

Respond during the concert.

Damn, what kind of Kool-Aid did you guys feed D1 at DU? Jesus Christ.

Just call what's wrong with you. If he asks something immediate then explain that you can't do that right now and let him know when you can. That's how you build relationship. If you don't call, next time he won't even text you, and I don't think this is a good sign. I had directors helping me out over the weekend and they didn't have a problem with that either.

@D1 You have corporate slave mentality. It's really sad.

like

lolol we don't drive ambulances here, D1 spare me the holier than thou speech. OP I hope you didn't call. In fact I probably would respond unless they asked me again during a normal business hour. There is NO such thing as an emergency in our industry

like

@D1 I agree man, I also wish they would invent something so we wouldn't waste so much time eating or using the bathroom. Those minutes we spend doing those things takes away time to do productive things. I also wish we could apply this to clients because I get too bored waiting for them to finish their lunch or have to wait til the next day for their reply since they have to sleep.
