I’m moving to Nashville Metro Area, TN and applying to solely Data Engineering Jobs (I have a total of 3 yrs exp & want to get back to it). Anyone have any good recs/websites/tips for estimating salary at this location? I’ve tried the popular websites like levels.fyi, glassdoor and indeed but I find that the ranges differ a lot.

I didn't think that was negotiable and a right they could take away
Tell certain people what they “can’t” do and they will soon show you what they will do.
I’d fly her out anyway. There’s no way you’ll be working around the clock on weekends if you put in that real time during the week. Manager does sound like an ass. It’s probably against firm policy Push the work down
Manager sounds like an ass
Yeah he can’t do that. It’s against company policy. You either have to be given the option to travel home every weekend or fly out your SO. I spent 4 weeks in NYC as busy season support and was told working the weekend was not required and I could go home, stay, or bring my wife up. Ended up bringing her up once to see a show and the other weekends I was on my own
Ok... so you’ve proven my point. Someone told you that you couldn’t do something (or had to do something) that you didn’t agree with and you quoted policy at them because you were determined to do something else.
My statement was nice and vague like one of those horrible motivational posters. It can have many meanings and apply to almost any set of facts.
K1 has it right. Firm policy says you get to go gome, bring an SO to you, or you get equivalent dollars (something to that effect) to stay the weekend. Look it up in the policy center.
Fly her out. Period.
Quit?
I don’t believe in that at all, EY2. OPs Manager is still an employee of the firm just the same as OP and as far as I’m concerned, policies govern.
I can count on two hands the number of times I’ve cited company policy to a superior, up to and including partners, and every time they have responded positively. You obviously have to be an adult and have some tact, but trust me, everyone is afraid of directly violating firm policy and having the HR machine chew them up and spit them out, including partners.
Fly her out every alternate weekend and relax.
I’ve had plenty of similar things happen to me, just look up the firm policy and make sure you know what you’re entitled to. Calmly come back and say “I’ll be flying my SO out/going home on weekends/etc based on the guidance/firm policy. If that doesn’t work for you then please take me off the engagement as I’m not going to violate firm policy or sacrifice personal needs." 99% of the time this is the work of some budget stressed out Manager who doesn’t want you "using the project as a vacation"and has no real pull anyways.
Yeah K2 weekends you stay you get to bill through full per diem for both days. Nice chunk of change depending where you are.
If they get hostile with you about it go right over their heads to your PPD escalation point or talent. Could also get the project PPD involved because I guarantee they’re unaware of what this Mgr is asking, they don’t want their projects in HR’s crosshairs
Damnit! Fair enough. Touché .
Honestly I'd probably request off the engagement if that happened to me.
I would cite the firm policy to him and inquire to fly her out either the first or second weekend. Once you get closer to the deadline, perhaps working around the clock. But the first couple of weekends is reasonable (or entire stint imo)
Don’t let anyone (besides a PPD) push you around regarding stuff like this. If it’s in the policy you’re entitled to it, the policies were designed to make assignments like these more reasonable. If the manager won’t budge then say you won’t be able to participate and escalate
Since when does a manager set expense policy? Sounds like your manager mistakes his role as being part of management, which he or she is not. They’re just a dick.
EY2: i totally agree. They always show what they will do!!
