Slalom 🐠 (or other non-traveling consulting shops) - can you expense the commute to the client if the client’s office is farther away from your house then the slalom office? Any policy around this?

Pretty sure it’s an IRS allowed expense, at least the mileage cost of the difference in distance from your normal office. So if your normal commute is 25 miles and the client is 50, you’d be able to expense the additional 25 miles each way.

I believe the new tax law removed that deduction 😬

Depends on location. Houston took it away but received major backlash from consultants. They put the commute expense back in. But tweaked a little

Furthermore, if you live in a city that has an established public transit system, you’ll likely not receive commute expenses

In most offices, yes, you can expense the commute above and beyond your normal commute to the office, especially if your trip to the client is far/expensive. Some offices have pulled back on this or placed restrictions on it with backlash. Some offices also have an additional $100 stipend, which is intended to cover your commute to/from the office, of if your client is within simple public transit commuting distance. As with everything at Slalom, this is very market dependent, so just ask during recruiting.

I think they also took it away in Chicago, based on reactions on FB. I believe they have it in Phoenix and Boston. Policy/amount varies by office though, as SC1 said

A couple days ago was emailed by my SM who cc: another SM and our MD on the account. They were thanking me for all the hard work I’ve been doing. Does NAGARRO reimburse relocation charges?

At a former company, they let you expense $20 for working 10+ hours in a day, but you could never use it because it would always be rejected. Recently started at a new firm, and I had a rough week last week (two 14+ hour days). New firm has a similar policy, so I asked. Was told not to submit the $20 reimbursements. Just as I was about to get frustrated, he told me I should get dinner for my wife and me. Only rule was to keep it under $100. Don't like working 14 hour days, but this was nice.
