Work life balance is the best benefit of the job - I've never had it better. The one variable is your drive time to client site.
^ ha! fair.
If you're driven, there is space and support to drive bizdev and solutions. The company, while still the best place I've ever worked, seems to have misplaced growth (offices and revenue) over consultant happiness, relative to quality of clients/projects. We used to turn down clients/projects based on fit - now, we'll take anything - more and more the work we do feels like staff aug. Our most senior and talented folks are bailing at a rapid clip. Basically, everyone is seems to be casually on the job hunt.
Interviewed with them last year. Lots of positive vibes. However, they didn't want to staff till they had a project which rang some alarm bells.
EY2 - Ouch yea that sounds a little...interesting. Anyone from the Minneapolis office? Is it office dependent on whether or not there is growth and projects that people want to work on? Do you think these smaller firms will continue to gain market share, or be gobbled up by the large firms?
We are employee owned, not likely to ever sell. It's true we only hire if the worked is aligned, but we never layoff (yet) due to a consultant's bench time.
SC1 - Oh I see, so you won't bring someone on directly to the bench, you will only hire them directly in to a sold project? That doesn't sound that bad actually. Especially since the big firms you get hired and then just have to go fishing and hope you get staffed when you come on.
Correct, you will be working within a week or two. Also, you are not accountable for finding your projects - you can (and should, if you want to move up), but your practice leadership owns it.
How is the work life balance ?
oh, yes, because each office serves local clients, the type of clients and projects are very location specific. We do have a crossmarket team, though.
