Sleep advice/meds: If you’re not getting good quality sleep when on stimulants, what do you do? What sleeping pills do you recommend which don’t impact stimulants efficacy the next day?

5mg Melatonin + 1000mg Vitamin C + 200mg Magnesium Threonate 😴

I forget exactly what happens/why but the vitamin C helps clear out any stimulant that’s still there.

Right there with you. Melatonin works to get me to fall asleep but I wake up a few (4-6) hours later and am unable to fall back asleep like I’ve just taken a nap. This happened even before the stimulants. Haven’t had a good experience with sleep meds so I’m probably gonna need a change with my stimulant.

Went from vyvanse to smaller doses of Modafinil/adderall - vyvanse is too long lasting for me

Same psych dr that prescribes my other script. I told her I was wary of relying to heavily on amphetamines, with the lack of appetite, sleep, etc... She understood the concern and was supportive of the plan.

I tried strattera with her first and hated it so this was really the only option that wasn't an SSRI or stimulant.

helpful

Natrol Melatonin and sleepy time tea with valerian root.

like

I haven’t tried this yet, but I wonder if extended release melatonin would be helpful

Seconded.

I use Olly Extra Strength Melatonin Gummies. They work like a charm.

Melatonin isn't a good option long term. Check out Andrew Huberman and Matthew Walker's podcast episode on sleep. There's tons of good info there. One of the supplements mentioned is L-theanine, which works to relax you before sleeping.

Melatonin + CBD and magnesium citrate. If I need something stronger, Clonidine 0.1mg

I love Doxepin. I don't miss a night of sleep with it. Highly recommend.

I will add that sometimes I can get to sleep but I can't stay asleep.. Doxepin keeps me asleep all night.

We’re considering adding wearables tracking to pull in health metrics for a wellness app. Let’s say we plan on doing iOS only and one approach is only doing apple health integration, while another is to use a 3rd party aggregator like Validic or Humanapi to integrate once and get access to Fitbit, Oura, WearOS, and tons of other wearables. Which route would you suggest?

Does anyone have advice/ experience with disclosing or advocating for your ADHD support needs in highly toxic environments? Or getting formal disability accommodations?

I’m on a VERY toxic project where I really need accommodations but I am scared there will be repercussions if I personally disclose my ADHD like I have on past projects.

I submitted an HR request for accommodations and it’s been ignored for over a week.

I really can’t take another week of spending every day crying.

I recently switched to Strattera (had been on Adderall for 6 years) to see if it’d help my sleep issues. Been taking for 6 weeks total, almost 4 at the current dose. My focus isn’t too bad, but I’ve been feeling really… blah… and unwell later in the day and not as motivated overall. Also been having more obsessive impulses, though my anxiety seems to be better. Anyone else have this experience? Did it change over time?

Any good ADHD psychiatrist in the Bay Area? My previous psychiatrist wasn’t a good fit

I started taking Adderal, 2.5 g which is not really a lot. It didn’t really help with my focus, instead I felt restless and somehow nervous and really thirsty. And it made me clench my teeth. I do grind my teeth during nighttime but never experienced this in the daytime. Does it take time to get used to it?

Is anyone on a low dose of Adderall or a similar stimulant, and do you find it helpful/effective?

When I was diagnosed (at 20 yo) I started on Adderall XR and my psychiatrist essentially took a “keep upping the dose until you feel side effects” approach, even though I still saw some benefits at a lower dose. I’m currently unmedicated and am somewhat hesitant to restart, but feel I could see some benefit and better stability with the help of medication.

Newly diagnosed & medicated and new to consulting.
I’m great with clients but getting bad evaluations because I’m slow to produce work and don’t take time to communicate status.
I’m trying really hard but I keep getting stuck in perfection loops and scared to share things before they’re perfect.

Did you struggle with this & find a way to improve? I’m terrified I’m going to get counseled out, but I love this job so much.

Happy Friday. Just a reminder of a few things:

- ADHD is a disability, but it’s not the end of the world
- give yourself a break. Your brain needs it more than you realize
- medication is not a cure-all treatment. Medication + diet + exercise + self-organization is the key.
- ADHD causes us to feel emotions stronger than the average person.
- failure is inevitable, but so is success. Act accordingly, and be kind and fair to yourself
- life is hard, but that’s… wait, what was I saying? 😂😎❤️
