Sleeping aids plus stimulants: does anyone feel like when they take some sleeping aids it causes the stimulants to work not as well for first couple hours in morning?

Just a suggestion from experience: Go all natural for sleep aids because the synthetic can really mess up your life, but there are natural ones that do a great job. I recommend "Super Snooze by Sundown." It's a mix of natural ingredients, I take 2 every night, and it balances well with my morning stack, which is also something that you can work on perfecting:

My morning stack:
- 30mg Adderall XR (for ADHD)
- Panax Ginseng (energy boost, coffee alternative)
- Vitamin B Complex *without Vitamin C* (energy, immune support)
- Vitamin D (mood, immune support)
- Caffeine (coffee or tablet - potentiates the energy and focus effects of the ADHD med)

Also, what's in your current sleep medication and what else are you taking at night? And are you taking any other vitamins in the morning? Like take Vitamin C at night to reduce the toxicity of the stimulants and improve your tolerance, but avoid it for the first few hours after you take your medication because it weakens the effect of ADHD stimulant medications.

My nighttime stack:
- Super Snooze by Sundown (Sleep. It's important to maintain a healthy sleep cycle so you can bring your best to life and not rely on ADHD drugs to cover for your lack of sleep. I've tried various brands of melatonin. Some are total rip-offs, ZZZQuil claims to be drug free but you wake up 14 hours later on your front lawn with 13 missed calls. Super Snooze is the effective middle ground that I've found: It doesn't knock me out, I sleep 8 hours a night, my alarms wake me up, I feel refreshed, and importantly, if I can't have it one night, I can still sleep well. It's an all natural stack of Calcium, Magnesium, Valerian Root, Hops Flower, Chamomile, Passion Flower, Taurine, and 5mg Melatonin. It's like $10 for 90 capsules on Amazon See the attached photo.)
- EyePromise Restore (eye health/dry eye)
- Collagen 1-5 (skin and hair health)
- Vitamin C (**this is important. Vitamin C lowers the toxicity and effectiveness of our ADHD meds, including Adderall and Vyvanse, so it helps remove the drug from your system quicker when you're ready to go to sleep, and “wipes the slate clean" so you can keep from building a tolerance. It's also important to have on hand in case you ever accidentally take more than you intend, so you can take a Vitamin C and avoid the worst effects of an overdose. But avoid Vitamin C for the first hour after you take your meds, because it can cause your meds to be less effective than expected — and that's why it's good at night.)

All this helps me stay well-tuned for work and life, but a different set of vitamins might be better for you, so be sure to do your research, talk to your doctor, and refine your mix of supplements until you find the stack that works best for you.

SC Until college I was just taking Adderall for ADHD. I started researching my stack early in college, so it's been about 6 years. As I told OP in a private message, I've tried other supplements during that time that worked for a while but I no longer take (incl. Turmeric, L-theanine, and L-Tyrosine), each for its own use and eventual reason for stopping. It's all a part of a journey, so it's best to do research, talk to your doctor, consistently live the healthiest lifestyle you can, and experiment with what works best. That way, you find not only what works well together for you, but also to make you're getting benefits from what you're taking, so you're not wasting money on a supplement that doesn't do anything for you.

Yeah if it’s just a red bull why on earth would you suggest that? Probably worse than stimulants coffee or Modafinil itself lol

If you do melatonin- keep it below 5 mg a night or it can hurt your sleep overall

Appropriate Melatonin dosage depends on more circumstances than a one-size-fits-all number for everyone, especially when ADHD stimulants are in the mix. 5MG may be an appropriate dose for most adults who aren't taking stimulants, but it may be useful for people here to try a range of doses over a range of time to find the right dose for you, and try a few different brands if you're not experiencing any benefits. For me, I take 2 of those Super Snooze caps that I mentioned above, and each of them have 5mg of melatonin. I occasionally take a 3rd if my mind is particularly active. I'm confident about what's in these supplements and how they work in the body, so I know it's safe adjusting the occasional dose. Of course talk to your doctor if you have any concerns.
