SLAY 👏🏼 OP 👏🏼 SLAYYYYYYYY 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Some SMs are pricks. Overpromising to deliver what they can’t do in their wildest dreams. Must know how to rock those kneepads to get to the top because their negative IQs would’ve gotten them nowhere.
I think you did great standing up for yourself and your area of expertise. But I also think her point about attitude has some value. If that's the exact conversation you had, it's important to know how to say yes without saying yes.
Try:
1) I can get you a wireframe over the weekend but this is more of a month long effort
2) Why don't we try to mock up some of it in Excel and see if the vision is right? Some of the scope is much more labor intensive and it's important we show value before investing weeks into it.
3) I definitely think we can get the client there but if they want something soon, I suggest we break it down into smaller chunks of work that'll take a few weeks at a time.
Help her understand why this is a much longer effort and if she's not a spawn of Satan, she'll go back to the client all by herself and correct her mistake instead of wanting to chew you out in the future.
PS you sound like you're at the edge of frustration and are more ranting than enjoying your work. If this is the case, quit and get a fresh start. We've all been there.
D3 and preferably HTML and CSS. Also a DBA and someone who can handle the ML model on the back end. And maybe i can have it to you by late January.
SM: Couldn’t you put in some time over the weekend? I’ll see if <name> can help you out.
Me: No.
SM: Most people would have a better attitude.
Me: Most people wouldn’t sell work they can’t staff and deliver on.
@A1- she can fuck all the way off. Selling work she has no clue how to deliver is her problem, not mine.
This is frustratingly common in commercial I have noticed. I don’t see this in federal. Too many MBAs who “think at a high level,” too few people with technical skills.

@B1- It is more involved than a just a model and mock up. And she has a habit of promising shit she can’t deliver. I’m not enabling her. Even if it was possible, i wouldn’t. Shouldn’t sell on a solution without first involving capability leads who know the people and technology necessary to bring it to life.
EY1- EVERY SINGLE DAY OF MY LIFE. Unfortunately the audience is more astute than this group.
If this really happened, good for you OP.
✌🏼 bonus
Ey1 that video triggered my PTSD and made the pit of my stomach ache.
They should show that video to every functional lead on a tech project.
But Tuesday COB for this idiot? No. I’m only one person and Deloitte doesn’t hire enough people with the skill sets we need to deliver this work. Too many PowerPoint jockeys.
Nice Video, that’s exactly the reality these days. The experts won’t get a chance to explain and even they did these A**h**** wont understand. They brand the experts as incapable and pessimists, f*** them,it’s all to make money and fool clients who equally are responsible for all the s***t. Always believe what is feasible, time will only bring the reality out.
Good luck w your next project/job OP!!
Yo as a technical person who just started at Deloitte, F these people. I'm o.k. with python. I don't consider myself a engineer, but I have noticed this skill is rather rare in deloitte, at least in my group. I've made the mistake of not knowing how to say no. Slowly digging myself out.
😡 sorry OP. You need a new network so you don’t have to work with ppl like that
Op perhaps take another opinion on the effort or resource required so that the SM knows you are right. Also our business is a dangerous business. Too much of people have got promoted just by showing a nice face and talking like a parrot. So you can’t react no matter how a’hole they are.
It helps to have support in numbers. I am not saying op is wrong in effort estimation.
OP I like you. You did the right thing ..almost fighting similar battles with PPD who does not know anything keeps selling shit he doesn’t even know can’t be delivered..
