Enter your time contemporaneously- say it louder for the people in the back!!!!
We’ve been told to release time daily. I think it’s an effort to ensure all time is accounted for and not released at the end of the month, as well as monitor people’s daily time but not necessarily looking at tasks. They also said it’s an effort to ensure work is distributed evenly among those in each group or across associates and paralegals. Call me a fool but I believe it is for the good of everyone and hope it’s a move to keep everyone afloat during this time.
Person who doesn’t input daily will be fired. It’s billables hunger games.
No we are all doing it
It’s both to see who needs more work and also a means to keep track of billable for revenue projections.
Not a single one of my clients has said anything about bills. In fact most have asked that I stay on top of billing so it doesn’t get delayed and that they intend to pay in normal course. Of course demand is going to be more sluggish and yes some collections will inevitably lag but there is still every reason to stay on top of hours.
I think it’s a reasonable ask. But I also think it’s reasonable to communicate why it is being asked.
It is totally reasonable to want to see if revenue is going to plummet and to distribute work evenly.
But it is also scary from an associate perspective to feel like its step one in getting laid off. Which, frankly, it could be. It also can feel like your supervisors do not trust you/think you are lying and/or lazy, which is also upsetting.
Communication is key here.
I don’t think being required to close time daily is an indicator of anything by itself, but I get the fear. If you still have work, it’s a good sign.
