Small firm started WFH but mandates that entire firm (about 25 ppl) has to attend in-person docket in a room each week. County orders no more than 10+ ppl in a social gathering. Actionable if fired?

I would think so. Why can’t you call in?

Great question- wish I had an answer. We were told “you must be here in person each week. No exceptions.”

All of the associates should object.

Tell them you have a preexisting condition and need to self quarantines as much as possible and ask for the dial-in?

Sounds like they don’t want people checking out and going on a vacation.

Isn't there phone or video conferencing available, or a combination of both?

Yes. Which makes the situation that much more ridiculous.

Sounds like family law

A2, that sounds reasonable. Aside the noncompliance, I would think is an additional nudge for a reasonable accommodation.

Frustrating… I don’t like my associate
He’s been on the project for 6 months and doesn’t do anything and isn’t willing to learn anything but some how is still employed . I’m not the type to get someone fired and you know … have prbs paying bills . So I haven’t professionally complained about him but for F*** sake I’m losing my patience … feeling guilty to take his bread and complain … looking for new project … idk what to do

Just landed a full time gig, looking to get some furniture so I’m not working on my parents’ kitchen table during this remote period. Any recommendations for desks and chairs? I’m hoping to find something that’s easy to assemble and break down for when I need to move, and something that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I know everyone has a different kind of setup that works for them. I currently have a laptop, drawing pad, second monitor, and a desk riser.

What remote jobs are you all doing? Would love some insight. I've come to the conclusion that a gig with minimal social contact is honestly best for me so that I can listen to my music and concentrate essentially. I do IT consulting now and am in the market for a new job. My salary requirements are pretty low, and I have a pretty good resume imo. Any advice?

I just got offered a job with a firm that has billable hour requirements. I’ve never had had billable hours. Is is appropriate to ask what the billable requirements are? I have a good idea from someone I know who works in a different department but want to confirm what they told me. They also provided vacation time of 3-5 weeks. I’m assuming that’s work weeks, but is that appropriate to ask for clarification? I don’t want them to think that’s all I care about, but these are important to me.

I keep reaching out to the attorney who I am assisting to ask if I can file my withdrawal and for the name of the new attorney and nothing. (Cont.)

I need advice on developing a book of business for litigation work. I'm going into my third year of practice and there's opportunity to grow at my firm, but I'm having a hard time getting case referrals. I generally do not work with outside counsel and do not have time to network like I used to in law school. I'm a Miami-based attorney working complex lit cases, and I find myself loaded with work for my partner's clients. His advice is to work cases hard and let the clients come in organically.
