The only thing weirder than small talk, is transitioning from the small talk to their portfolio... so I have a lovely tulip tree at my house... well speaking of tulip trees, how about that GM stock?!?

funny

So I’m dying to hear....annuals or perennials??

Small talk isnt as small as you think it is. It provides you with a way to connect with your Clients. Connecting with people is how we get clients. This makes clients or anyone feel less uncomfortable especially when we are trying to help them over the long term. It makes me feel less uncomfortable when I’m around complete strangers too. I’m not sayin to make small talk about things you don’t care about. That’s the weird part. Get used to And highly skilled at small talk genuinely.

Sometimes I feel like I am not working in an IT Company. The client for which I work for has a very old code base and the nature of my work especially revolves around L3 troubleshooting and unending POC, I feel like I am not exactly working in a Tech Company.

In the process of being promoted @B4 but I don’t like the people I work for and I’m on the project from hell. The promo has taken so long that I’ve looked elsewhere despite it being my 2nd promo in 3 years. I haven’t had much traction until this past week where I was approached by 4 recruiters with really compelling roles (including FAANG). I know it doesn’t hurt to talk to them but am I an ass for excepting the promo while continuing to look/possibly exiting in the near future?

Renter tip: if you landlord/management company won’t fix things fast enough, threaten to file a violation with the DCRA. The Office of the Tenant Advocate told me to do this and my issue was fixed that day, after the company had been dragging their feet for months on it. I guess they fine them thousands of dollars a day so it scares them into action.

Tomorrow I'm interviewing a young woman for a Sr. designer position on my team. I'm mid level and have about 3 more YOE than her. Her portfolio is strong, and I'm trying not to be butt-hurt about it.

What are some questions I can ask that actually address my concern that she may not have enough experience without coming off as aggressive/jealous?

(I have no say in who is getting interviewed for this role, and will be reporting my concerns to my boss, but don't want to undermine the candidate)
