Does anybody have any advice when applying to postings with many applicants and getting noticed? The company I am interested in is Figma, and though I reached out to a few technical recruiters after applying through LinkedIn, I am wondering if there might be something more I could do that maybe I’m not thinking about. Also along those lines, if anybody here works for figma I would love the chance to connect
Hi Everyone,
I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM

My opinion - if you don’t work for LinkedIn you have the right to not create an account. If it’s not job related - you should be able to tell your employer no. My team asked me to create one just for fun but I said no because I am also not on SM.
If your employer doesn’t respect your boundaries, why keep working there? I don’t think people care as much about your online presence as you think.
I like using LinkedIn because it has helped me get my past two roles without much interviewing. I do look up colleagues and professional acquaintances to get a sense of their professional background. Sometimes we have things/places/people in common and I might mention it if it comes up. I keep my professional life and personal life separate, but some people don’t care.
If you want to stay private, stay private. Nobody is being forced to use the site. If your employer tries, tell them to respect your privacy. Or you can just find an employer that does respect people. Plenty of them out there.
Tell them it's not required and if they want to give you more responsibility of creating an account you can renegotiate your salary
I’m really sorry you went through those situations, I’m glad you’re safe now. The other comments have summed up my advice beautifully, but I couldn’t read this without wishing you well.
It’s weird to me that people actually Google other people including looking up coworkers on LinkedIn. If we’re remote or work face2face my business is not yours. I’m no longer paranoid like I was immediately after my stalking situations but I just find it weird how people really harp on having LinkedIn accounts. My accomplishments are vast yet I don’t find it necessary to post them on sites like that.
Do any of you rely heavily on LinkedIn, if so please share with me why you or enlighten me as to its use, especially since people post all of their information on the site(s) like that then wonder why scammers have all of their personal information in which they can also use on other sites to back access anything that they will need to find?
Networking and job search. I've been hiring for a bunch of roles. Scoured my network to see past colleagues, friends, etc .. that I think would be a good fit. I've also been head-hunted a few times. Low effort, large rewards
I would just tell your manager about your situation and I would wager they'll accommodate you
You don't owe them any explanation.
"Thank you for the reminder! I don't have an active profile on LinkedIn.
The team has done an awesome job of rebranding.
Best,

LinkedIn has helped me with job offers from recruiters. Joined product team two weeks ago, updates my title. Within 24 hours I received a message on a product role.
I can apply to directly to roles in the future of course, but I like using LI to receive leads passively based off information I put on my profile.
I see no reason why it should be required of any employee.
You have every right to protect yourself online! More people should.
I think a lot of employers use it as a shorthand background check. To make sure people’s statements/accomplishments or history have some back up. I would watch out for whoever was like, “why didn’t you do it too?!” If your actual boss pressed the issue, I would just make a general statement about safety concerns/identity theft and remind them how social media has no bearing on how successful you are at your job.
