So did those of us at EY just go from having unlimited sick days to 10?

I'm happy about the change. Everyone will now use exactly 10 sick days. I hardly used any beforehand. Plus, it now covers missed days to cover for sick family members. For those of us with kids, this is an added benefit.

I was affected by the PwC advisory layoffs last year, and have actually enjoyed my time at EY so far. There hasn't been a single policy change that really makes any difference to me haha. I personally do think this 10 day change is a positive though

^that would just make me ensure that I use exactly 10 sick days every year. Whereas with an unlimited amount I don't really care as much.

like

I'm actually really happy about the change. No one ever takes more than 10 a year anyway because "unlimited" formed a stigma around taking any sick days at all; made you look like you're working the system, etc

like

Wow so lowered your cell coverage $, you guys work during the week of Christmas, I think they changed a few other things too bc of vision 20/20... not to mention lay offs. What keeps you guys there? Seems like a sinking ship.

like

That's how I read it. Isn't it cute that they package it in this "look how awesome, you can use sick days to care for family members now!" And don't say anything about that...

like

I also think it's important for us to remember that all of our firms have ups and downs. To say EY is a "sinking ship" is more than dramatic haha.

like

This is great. I never take sick days and under the unlimited policy there was no excuse to. Bet your ass I'm using all 10 of those sick days. Dentist appointment in morning? Sick Day. PT appointment at night? Sick Day.

like

Unlimited is weird...i only used 2 last year. No debilitating illnesses though, nor children. But for a straping yung lad 10 seems fine.

like

Hm. And I have an interview at EY next week. Glad I saw this now.

^agree, that's the ey way of doing things

like

Are they accrued? As in if you left you'd get paid out?

like

No, you don't get them paid out. And it resets to 10 every calendar year, so no carryover

like

I prob used about 4 days total and that's highballing it

like

I wasn't complaining about the change, I just wanted to make sure I understood

like

Yes you did - total BS slight of hand. First the pension gutted, now this...

Ships sink all the time, including PwC... didn't mean to be dramatic, but I am serious. Talk about what's good; blow it up EY!!

Help me out, everyone seems to be having much milder symptoms with Omicron. Is the hospital capacity issue due to people panicking and going to the hospital despite having mild symptoms or because staff are out with illness? I don’t understand how the medical system is on the brink of collapse right now. Maybe I have a skewed view of Omicron based on anecdotal experience?
