KPMG is 25 days starting and 30 at Senior Manager. We are giving everyone off, just take a PTO day. You have plenty
Do we get the week off? Yes. But are we required to use 3 vacation days in FY20 for “extended firm holidays”? Also yes. So in reality, it’s not that great. I’d rather use vacation when I choose it than when it’s forced but that’s just me
Think about the people who lose the vacation because they max out. I’m sure they love the firm shutdowns because like said above, it’s a lot easier to shutdown when the rest of the firm is too.
Can’t compare KPMG to those firms in any other area, why would you make the comparison with regard to our holiday week?
Came from PwC. No realizable differences in KPMG, except that we focus a lot on tech.
It's important to look at benefits as an entire aggregate basket. If we start looking at just a slice of one benefit, we are often going to get upset when comparing to other firms. In many comparisons, some things may be better and some less. And then different benefits have different levels of value to different people. Too easy for any of us to get ourselves worked up on these issues. Overall, most firms do a pretty job of putting together a package of benefits. Nothing is perfect.
Typical partner response
I'm at a mid regional firm. We only have the 4th off. 15 starting days. Would that make you appreciate KPMG more?
PwC has off but doesn't KPMG give something like ~22 PTO starting? We get 14. Even with those 3 days you still come out ahead
PwC also has a lot of things that have set days off for things like bereavement. With that and unlimited sick, it comes out similarly.
EY yes. But we have to use PTO for July 1, 2, and 3. July 4 & 5 are holidays. So yes we are off but 24 hours is PTO
Same at PwC. So OP can just take next week off as vacation. No difference actually
We also give additional days off in December, where other firms don’t. I’m okay taking PTO.
We had to use a pto day those week, they only gave us 2 extra days.
Scandinavia EY: obligated 5 weeks off, July/August. Includes all levels from staff to partner.
Most people in my office take the whole week off and with 25 days of PTO idk why you couldn't manage a Friday
KPMG 7, you seem really salty. Can assure you that you don’t actually get “significantly more” PTO than other firms, but you keep drinking that Koolaid if it makes you less bitter when you compare your benefits against the other firms.
Yeah we get 25 mixed personal and sick days, but for 6 months of the year, you have to schedule that time off a minimum of 2-3 weeks in advance. So if you're going to be sick, I sure hope you planned for it and got it approved first.
