So finally after so many applications and interviews and rejections I landed a job finally. They negotiated with me well 100k salary decent benefits. I’ll be the first HR for the US for them, they are a China-based company so this will be an interesting challenge for me. I’m gonna take it three months at a time. Not get too excited be strictly business and just keep on trucking just in case if the worst happens again. My last employer caused damage so treading lightly. Any tips going in to this?

Congrats 👏🏼 it’s nice to see people get jobs after so many applications it’s inspirational for those who are still looking. Research how china conduct business and employee relations. Start with a fresh new mindset. Learn to manage your schedule as the time difference maybe challenging at times. Connect with as many people to build trust and strong relationships. Learn a few words of mandarin people will appreciate the effort ☺️ good luck 🤞🏼

The time difference is the biggest thing right now. I’m expected to be online 9-5 but in their time zone it’s like overnight for them. Working on having them have me be remote so I can be ready anytime to answer questions, plus less stress of commute.

Congratulations! Don't let your previous employer's experience ruin this new challenge. You are going to do really well. The main challenge will be to be on the same page as the people in China and adjust to it. Don't be afraid to ask questions and document everything for future reference! Good luck!

I totally get it. I took a terrible job due to the same reasons. And I left within 5 months

I have an American coworker who was an expat in china. He will never work for another Chinese company again. My close friend just left a Korean company that has a location here in Texas. He said the same thing

CBA1 I can see how that is. This company offers only 12 days PTO for 1-5 years. That includes sick pay. Hoping I can change that, if not I’ll walk. Had to take something cause I was laid off

Hey, I like the 3-month at a time plan. I'd do check-ins with myself constantly. And don't feel guilty about that either. This is uncharted territory. Good luck!

It is for sure uncharted territory. I’m just thankful to be employed at this point.

I was told that I was the chosen candidate for a new role that I applied for which will be promotion, I just recently received my offer and was surprised and decided to start negotiating. My boss immediately said that this is offer, either take it or lose it and no negotiating, and was only given a day to decide whether I want it or not, so he repost the position, and was also told that I was going about it the wrong way for trying to negotiate, Is this wrong of me to negotiate?

Can someone explain why all back office roles at investment banks are regarded so poorly? I hear things like the jobs are really dull and the pay is low. Is this true across the board? I'm thinking of internal consulting roles at investment banks. These seem to be interesting opportunities with decent compensation. Why all the hate on anything that isn't front office IB?

Partnership deal - is this a good deal?
I’m working on building a start-up. This requires an app and a website. A friend of mine has a web development company who can do the job for me very well and efficiently. He really likes my project and offered a partnership: i pay him $30k and he gets 20% equity.
He also gave me the option to be ‘treated as a client’ and deliver my project at a normal rate (about $80K), should I not want to partner.

Anyone here familiar with the hiring process of KPMG consulting in Van? Had a partner interview on Nov 21, thought the feedback was positive but haven't heard back yet (no rejection/offer). Is it something normal or the interview just didn't go as well as I thought?

It's an experienced hire for an SC role. I saw the posting is still open atm, and my guess is that the recruiting team is comparing candidates since competition is higher due to recent layoffs.

Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow HR pros! I really need your opinions on HR certifications. I am deciding between PHR and SHRM-cp. I have read just about all there is online comparing the two and can not decide. My heart is telling me PHR, my mother in law (an HRBP) is telling me to go with SHRM, as it’s more widely recognized, more established and a larger network in general.
