Leave your office light on and an uncapped highlighter on your desk on top of a stack of documents when you go home. Maybe you can set up a buddy system with another associate to take turns flipping on each other's office lights. Maybe throw a suit jacket on the back of your chair for additional effect. I would probably just work from home more and more to see how long it takes for them to call me out. It depends on how desperate you think they are to hire new associates. I'm going to assume a firm like that can't afford to lose a good associate.
Hahah I love it. I appreciate the confidence that I am a good associate. I usually work with my door closed so I could just leave it closed
So far? Crying about it here.
My solution was lateraling to a firm where I negotiated to be “primarily remote” - lateraled in October and have yet to go to the office once
Yes, it’s written into my offer letter. It is of course somewhat wishy washy and includes something along the lines of “we would rather not put a strict schedule in place as there may be circumstances where the work requires you to be in the office on occasion” but it also says I am “primarily remote” and *knock on wood* so far I have been able to handle all hearings remotely. I live a county away from my office and they often have hearings in the next adjacent county as well so that’s a big factor for me too. I’m roughly 50/50 transactional/lit.
Another wrinkle is that this seems to be more boss specific than firm specific. I have a friend in another practice group and her entire group seems to stay home if it’s raining, cold, almost a holiday, etc.
We’re writing posts like this in hopes that some of these partners see them
My boss insists we all work in office and they are the only one who never comes in. 🙄
Ugh the worst
“We” aren’t doing anything. Your options are to accept the firm is in office, defy your boss and the firm by continuing to wfh, or lateral.
Also me today (I'm Ned Flanders)
My firm has been trying to do this and people just don’t show up. We are on billable hours, though
Following. My firm allows wfh if you absolutely have to, but it’s a smaller newer firm so I would love to know how to gently push them in the permanent hybrid direction.
I left lol The associates stating are fighting back though. A bunch of partners aren’t coming in the required days in office so they’re rebelling
