So I am attending a birthday party for a three year old Friday and I have zero clue what kids like for gifts. Any ideas? It’s a little boy (friends kid)

Ask the parent what he’s into (dinosaurs, Frozen, trucks, etc), then look online for a toy that fits the age range. The Strategist has gift guides by kid age, too

Can you ask the parents? I usually don’t like to buy toys/clothes without talking with them first. I normally tend to find parents ask for books since they already have so many toys/clothes already.

My mom has flown from Taiwan to the US once in her life: for my graduation. I’m now pregnant and would like to upgrade my moms flight when she comes to the US for my baby’s birth. What are some ways I can upgrade her flight for a steal? I’m United silver status so would prefer United, but open to other airlines. Currently not enough points so what’s the best way? Is it to purchase points (United? Chase?)? I’m clueless at this and would appreciate any help, thanks!

EY Parental leave question: how many weeks were you actually out? When I took my leave 3 years ago, I counted total of 21 weeks of leave. That’s including one firm winter holiday week. I remember I initially thought I would be back after 16 weeks, but then in the middle of my time off I got an email from Leave Team with the breakdown and it actually was 21 weeks. Can someone who took leave recently tell me the actual number of weeks?

How do I manage my 5 year old daughter’s curiosity about kissing on the lips. E.g., she asked my husband, I, her nanny, and a kid in class if she can kiss us on our lips. I know there will be a time and age but 5 is def not it for us. She understands the concept of respecting bodies and boundaries so the question is more about managing the curiosity vs. her forcefully doing it.

A few years ago I was living with my boyfriend in nyc in a cute little walk up and one bedroom. We got married and then had a baby, along with pets. cute walk up has turned in to a nightmare —we are constantly on top of each since there isn’t much space and I hate to lug the baby up/down the stairs when we go for a walk. Also stroller has to be dragged to the first floor. We wanted to move out of New York once we find job prospects but I don’t think I can tough it out anymore after one year.

Any couples who’ve built your empire from scratch? My SO and me have a total earning of about $180K and we’re 28. I know there are a lot of “it depends” factors - but, I’d love to hear your story and see how you’ll built wealth together..

Do you sacrifice your work for your baby’s first year? I know people usually make a move after baby is 1 year old and once your mom life is settled. What would be the best strategy for career move?

Any tips for maximizing parental leave? Any suggestions on logistics, benefits, perks, etc. much appreciated. Intentionally not posting in EY bowl so can get a sense for what more have done.

Was talking to the husband about what to do when kid 2 comes, if I'd want to go part time/flexible and keep them both at home while we wait for the pandemic to calm down (kid 1 is currently in daycare). He said he would look into it as well so we could split the time, no reason for one person to take full responsibility. I almost cried lol Ladies!! Talk to your husbands/SOs! Maybe not all will offer that solution on their own but see if they are receptive to the idea if you're struggling.

I, a childless woman who does not plan to have kids, am jealous of the parental leave parents get to take from work from choosing to have a child (a big life event). I 100% understand that they are working in a different way by taking care of the baby and being deliriously worn out in the process, but it makes me sort of jealous that unless I have a kid there is no life event that I can take ~3 months away from work to focus on and enjoy, plus have my hours prorated and a job to come back to.

Now I have an offer from outside, it's still at least 20 percent higher than revised comp. Any advice on what I should do, if I leave would it burn bridges, would the partner take it professionally? FYI, Next comp revision in Deloitte will be in June, and I don't anticipate that to be more than 5%.
