I’ll marry you and wear the watch
There are 2 sides to every story here. I know the knee jerk reaction is to say “get a divorce” but think about the following:
Not sure how long they’ve been married, but clearly watches are very important to the husband. She likely knows him for years, what does it say about her that she didn’t know exactly the type of watch her husband would like? After knowing someone for years, it’s a bit sad to know that your partner didn’t listen enough or get to know you enough about something you are so passionate about. It’s not about the watch itself but the fact that you couldn’t understand your husband’s tastes for something he’s so passionate about
I’m going with the daily human sacrifice - that makes the most sense

Your husband sounds like kind of a jerk 🤷🏻♂️
I was shocked to be honest. we actually got into an argument over the damn watch. I was trying to do something nice for him and instead, he feels like I am putting an albatross around his neck with the watch. I told him to exchange it for whatever makes him happy. The watch can be exchanged but not returned so there’s that. Maybe he can chose something cheaper and I will buy a BB 58 for me. Lol

If he likes Breitling, and liked the blue color, the SuperOcean Heritage is a great watch from Breitling. They can be had lightly used for about the same that a lightly used BB58 used would go for. They actually have the same movement inside (which is made by Tudor and objectively very good). You can do it on mesh, which is slightly blingy, or an excellent rubber strap.
Let your husband know its unanimous, he's being a dick about this.

OP- just ask him what he wants and get that specific model. Don’t wing it unless you’re in for another disappointment

A divorce
That’s unreal. The blue BB58 is objectively the worlds most universally perfect watch (under $10k). To call a watch a burden is perplexing, let alone a $4k gift his wife got him. Keep that sucker for yourself, put it on a different strap to make it feel more like you if needed. This guy deserves not just any gift cards but like totally unpersonalized $25 Target gift cards for his next 5 birthdays. Side note, dates are fine complications but sometimes it’s nice to have watches without them bc sometimes you just want a watch you can pick up out of your case and not have to re-set more than one thing before you leave the house, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve skipped over my Rolex Sub w/date and went for a BB for that exact reason.
But since he didn’t say it, I think we all on here thank you for your diligence in trying to find the perfect watch, you did an amazing job!

Yikes, I'm really sorry! I'd take the watch back and exchange it for some jewelry for yourself
It sucks but I get it. My husband is really into watches and we share finances so unless it was one that we really wanted (and he knows the specific ones he likes and why) he would be pretty bummed as he would have rather saved or invested the money. For big purchases sometimes it’s better to ask in advance and not surprise or just take them to the jeweler and make a fun day of it!
Yeah. Lesson learned. A few years ago he got me a Celine purse for my birthday. I did not complain! 😄
His words : the watch seems like a burden, not a gift 🎁. 🥲
D1, pretty much.

Omega Seamaster 300M? Bit more money but you should be able to get it under $5k (not including the trade). I’d also look at the Oris Aquis with the cal 400 movement, Sinn U50, and Bremont Supermarine Type300. Aqua Terra could be good too if you don’t want a dive watch.
On one level, I think it’s fair to have some input into gifts like a watch that are very personal and that one would wear all the time. Sounds like the level of conflict is a little over the top but I’ll stay on topic.
I just bought a watch for a gift and took this approach, which you might consider. I took photos of each watch, lined them up so that they were approximately to scale, and used a photo editor to block all of the dial text. I added basic specs for each (case size, other details not obvious from the photo) and had the recipient pick. Narrows the choice down so you’re picking what you like best, rather than picking based on brand perception or anything.
If he wants the seamaster he can pay the difference. I am done spending money ☺️

Can you keep it for yourself and get him a gift card?
Oh if I was not a petite person , I would have kept it !
It’s posts like these that make me like watches less. I think your husband should take a vow of poverty for a few months to realize what an effete debutante he’s become.
You could probably get him a Tudor GMT which has a date window and GMT hand. If he’s still not happy keep the GMT and exchange him for a newer model 🤣

Sell the watch and ditch the dude…problem solved
I say sell the dude, keep the watch.
If he’s into watches, the first place you should have done research is with him. This is a nice watch, but watches are fairly subjective at the end of the day. What’s important is whether the wearer likes the watch. Instead of posting here- ask you husband what watches he likes and turn this into a fun experience you can do together.
K2, I am a bag and sunglasses girl 😄😄😄 I wear an Apple Watch and a Celine bag. 💁🏻♀️
Need a sugar baby instead? I’ll take the watch🫡
Lol 😅 I can be a sugar baby myself 💁🏻♀️
