So I need to buy term insurance. Could you recommend any good companies ?
Also, does buying term insurance requires a credit check ?

Protective is a good company. If you go through Costco, you also get a discount on premium

If you are a CPA, AICPA has good term insurance.

Do you need it? If you are married, could your SO support themselves on their income. Do you have kids? Do your parents rely on you for financial support. Based on those questions do you need life insurance? Your employer probably offers you at least 1x your salary. You probably should have 3-5x salary if you have kids.

My SO can support herself but we just got a house and in case something happens I don’t want her to be stuck with house payments etc
I don’t have kids but may be someday I will
Yes my parents do rely on me
1x of my salary wouldn’t be enough
Hence asking for any reputable companies etc

Assume you’re referring to term life insurance? My wife and I each bought policies a couple of years ago through Policygenius. Their customer service was a little slow but the policies they offered access to were good value for the quoted prices.

Term does not require a credit check unless you are getting some massive amount. Not a hard pull.

I would consider the time you need it for. If you need it for 20 years you could just buy a level 20 from pac life or similar. Any A rated or better company is fine. Mine is through Northwestern mutual

Anyone has experience negotiating a medical bill with MGH. I got some blood work done and was sent a bill of 1800. The bill was 2700 but negotiated rate with my insurance is 1800. I got the exact same blood work done in NC 2 years back and it cost me <200. My insurance said i should have gone to labcorp. I am new to Boston and didn't know this. MGH says prices are higher as we are a teaching hospital. It's just open loot and does not make sense. Anyone dealt with a similar situation.

My friends have done very well and I’m happy for them, but it makes me feel inadequate. I’m about 40 and make low 6 figures in hcol. Live in a million dollar house (which is pretty average house built in 60s) and have a decent retirement of 500k. 2 kids, wife works. All in all, doing ok and good wlb. Objectively doing well but feel relatively poor compared to neighbors and peers. Is there any way to stop this self flagellation? Or do I need to put on my big boy pants and make more $?
