Depression/Anxiety Talk

So, I need to vent a little. I live in NYC with my husband and two kids (3 and 5). My husband is a Dr and his hospital has him on rotation tending to COVID patients. He has been staying in a hotel to

isolate from us. I am stressed between work and homeschooling and taking care of my kids alone while worrying about my husband. He has called me in tears with what he has experienced in just a few weeks. I try to be strong for my family but it is hard. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression since I was in college and over time have seen therapists and been on medication to deal with it. I feel myself slipping again but I cannot get an appointment with my therapist and I don’t know what to do anymore. I just want to give up.

I have not been on meds in years. I won’t be able to get a prescription.

Sorry to hear OP. We are here to listen and help, if possible. Thanks to your husband who is sacrificing immensely to save lives and respect to you for being supportive for him and being the best mother you can be. I’m not a medical expert so wouldn’t know alternatives for a therapist visit but I’ve found talking to my friends or close relatives has helped me more than I’d though. Hang in there and stay strong.

Start taking a day off a week. Gives you a break and time to do something with the kids rather than thinking about work all the time

OP can you take a week or two off of work ? This has got to be so unimaginably hard for you. You can cut out one anxiety causing thing out of your life for now. Focus on yourself and the kids and keeping them home and standing by your husband!! ( thank you to him for everything he is doing!!🙏🙏)

Sending thoughts your way as I also cannot imagine what you’re going through. But hoping you find the help you need and thank your husband for us please.

Sorry to hear. Try looking into employee assistance program as well as virtual therapy sessions. I would say take Some time off from work if possible if your firm is flexible

OP my husband is a physician too (not s hospitalist but a clinician) and we have an infant in Queens near Elmhurst. We are in COVID anxiety mode constantly bc every day patients test positive with it or his staff tests positive for it. I can’t imagine actively rounding on patients. Speak to your career counselor and tell them you need a flexible work arrangement. NYC is a hot zone and this will go on longer than other parts of the country and we have to pace ourselves or the anxiety will burn us out. Also message me to say hello!!

Consider Setting up a telemedicine appointment with a mental health professional. Teledoc, for example.
