So I wanted to share my experience and see if it helps anyone else out there. I was not an alcoholic, but I was definitely alcohol abusive. I would go out and drink and then be completely blacked out and not remember anything. I would also do and say stupid things that just made no sense and I even got in trouble with the law a few times.

One day, my friend and I after a few day bender decided to take some LSD because we were hung over and just wanted to not drink and chill. (Cont.)

Boy that was the craziest experience of my life. My trip made me realize what was wrong in my life and the darkness I was causing to everyone else around me. My trip took me to an alternate reality where I saw my life if I didn’t stop drinking. How it would impact my SO, my kids, parents, everyone close to me. It made me not just think about me, but how this was impacting my SO. It caused me rethink what is important to me.

It was like I could finally see what I was doing wrong and made me take a step back. The trip was life changing and immediately I stopped drinking.

It will be 3 years in May. If I didn’t trip, I would more than likely still be drinking. I’m not saying by taking LSD it will fix all of your issues, but it certainly lead me to the right direction.

Are you indulging in drugs now?

Other than taking an edible here and there I am not. That’s the thing with my trip, I got exactly what I needed from it. I actually have not done LSD since, but it was a great way for me to dig deeper.

I came in with intentions and I actually wrote down what I wanted to address on a notebook.

Psychedelics have been used for mental health disorders as well. I think it’s more “micro-dosing” but your way could work too lol

This is really interesting. I guess it does make sense that you maybe aren’t an alcoholic but had alcoholic tendencies bc I feel like when I was still drinking I was aware of the pain I was causing, but I couldn’t stop drinking…I kept going back and feeling shame for the pain I was causing then would drink to forget that shame instead of taking responsibility. For me, AA helped with that part of the issue - taking responsibility and managing to stop picking up a drink. Happy we both stopped and got to that point in our own ways!

Hi everyone,

I was affected by layoffs about a month ago and urgently looking for a good immigration lawyer. The lawyer should be experienced in handling this 60 day grace period situation and developing alternate strategies - such as change of status to B1/B2 or applying to jobs from India. There is a lot of noise and wrong information going in the market so looking for good recommendations.

I have very little time left for my grace period to end and need a consultation soon. Thanks

My boyfriend of a year got a DUI this weekend and has had drinking problems in the past. He fully admits he is an alcoholic, and will do therapy/go to AA moving forward. My therapist suggested I be a “computer program running in the background” and essentially leave him to allow him to work on himself. This is obviously a really hard decision, and I feel like I should listen to my therapist, but my heart is pulling me the other way. Anyone else been through something similar or have advice?

I’ve been sober a year now, and someone recently reached out to me about not drinking. When I suggested AA, he said ‘washed out people with nothing to lose’ wouldn’t comfort him. And that it was a ‘scared straight’ approach. I know his is a super harsh and ignorant opinion, but I just want to say if you hold it, it’s so far from the truth. Regardless of age, I’ve met some of the coolest unique people I’ve ever come across in aa, and I just felt sad people might hold that opinion of it in 2021

My husband is an alcoholic and it’s getting worse with the holidays. He’s started every day drinking high alcohol-content IPAs as early as 8am. And he drinks them all day and all night like soda. He did AA when he was younger but is now vehemently against it. He is high-functioning. Has a PhD from MIT and works for a venture capitalist firm. I wondered how he gets through the day, but he started to come home early (mid-afternoon) and immediately open a beer while working. What should I do?

I struggled with binge drinking for many years after my mom passed away. I have been sober for the past 12 months. My husband has struggled with drinking for a long time as well, and just got done serving a 6 month sentence for his second DUI (on ankle bracelet at home for 4 months of the sentence). He got out of jail this week, and he has drank almost everyday since. He says he is different now, and can control himself (i.e, he won't be abusive or drive). Continued in comments..

My son is about to go to college. His dad passed away when he was 8 and had an addiction to alcohol. I am so scared he is going to enter college life and become addicted to things after being curious. We have talked about it many times, but teenagers think they know everything and are invincible. I have told him there is a 50% chance he got the addiction gene and he needs to be careful. When I went to college I partied and tried it all, but I got lucky not getting addicted. Any advice?
