So I was talking to an old colleague who offered to recommend me to his MD for a lateral move into the group at AVP. He even asked me, are you absolutely sure you will be ok with a lateral move? And I said yes, as long as the MD agrees to make me a VP conditional on my performance in one year. I agreed because I am changing countries (not in NA). But, just given how much work experience I have (15 years sell and buy side), I want to tell my colleague that I want VP now. How to phrase this best?

Tough situation. They may only be looking to hire at a certain level/title. When I look to refer people, I always ask them title/comp range before doing anything. This is because we usually have a specific hole we are trying to fill.

You should backtrack ASAP and correct yourself. They may absolutely hold you to what you said if you don’t correct it right now. That will lead to a lot of anger & wasted time on everyone’s part.

Of course, you need to be willing to lose the opportunity. That’s the only real secret to every negotiation.

10+ years is considered AVP, while 15 years is definitely heading into VP territory.

Why did you change your mind?

Moving on from Hotels (Hospitality)?

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, but it is very to commit to actually accept a new job offer since I really do love my job. My only complaint is, the pay vs workload is very small. I’m a manager now and my property offered me a director position… but the salary is still low! To make six figures, it’ll take another 5-6 years to grind it out.

Should I move on and go to a different industry? Opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance.

Recently got an offer from Oracle for IC4: YOE: 8 yrs Salary offered: 35 LPA + 30% variable My entire experience has been on AWS cloud(rich data experience), is it worth learning Oracle cloud? Any idea about the chances of Oracle cloud in future? Oracle Oracle India
