I wouldn’t listen to EY1. Take the money and run. Tech companies also look good on a resume. You would also have so much lost income by staying at D when you have an offer for more money. D is not going to give out good raises any time soon, so if you want to get a salary bump you gotta leave now.

So then you do agree with me 🤡

Pretty straightforward, nobody built like you, you design yourself

I left after 1 year at D as a BA. I make as much as M’s at D make now 1.5 years after leaving with no sign of capping (also in big tech). I disagree with EY’s opinion, my work at D was nowhere near the scale of work that I do at big tech co, and there are infinitely more stretch roles here

To clarify my first comment — if you have a background in an easily marketable skill (data science, coding, mathematics) then I agree, I’d leave now and bank the extra income and less hours and feel confident I could continue to grow my responsibilities/income just fine. That’s not so true for other functions/skill sets and, to be completely fair, a lot of us came here right out of undergrad with potentially totally unrelated degrees. That’s where staying in consulting and getting those stretch experiences helps.

I’ll caveat my reply too and say this advice is worth listening to if you don’t have some easily marketable hard skill
I’ve always heard it can limit earning potential in the future. Consulting is typically easier to get “stretch” experiences that could easily lead to more well compensated jobs than what you’re looking at now a couple of years in the future (I.e managing global teams/projects, working on projects that have high financial impact). I would say it’s probably best to try and stay until M1, but totally understand if you think it’s more lucrative to go now — those things I mentioned are possible to find elsewhere, just maybe not as easy. Just my two cents.
Yeah I’ve hear that too. The only thing is I’m not sure I’m completely done with consulting. I actually like the job, but recently WFH and shit pay have made me very frustrated. I was thinking worst case scenario, I don’t like the new job and can boomerang back to D or another firm in a couple years for a title bump or two and a much higher salary
Always take the cash unless it is guaranteed that you will make more on the next promo.
