👋🏻 New mom here. I’m seeing a lot of comments about parents opting for “no sleepover” rules. Is this because of Covid, or is this a new thing? I went to sleepovers all the time as a kid and just wondering what reasons beyond a case-by-case basis would be to have this rule? Not judging, just genuinely curious.
What are some really good and budget friendly restaurants in Portland. My family really likes Khao Man Ghai and Marukin ramen and have been frequenting these two places way too often. They are unique, delicious, reasonably healthy and have kid friendly options. Any other suggestions?
Scenario: Son based in US. Parents don’t like It here and want to live in India. Son realizes that family needs his support for medical reasons as well as for psychological reason but parents ask him not to worry and they will manage. But son knows deep inside they are lying... Should the son move back jeopardizing his family’s career and lifestyle in the process ?
What is your favorite parent communication tool and why? I used Seesaw this last year and it worked fine, but I’m considering checking out class dojo. Thoughts?
New employer’s parental leave policy is silent on whether you have to return to work for a certain period after the leave in order to avoid having to pay back to leave. Are pay back clauses common?
I need a cheap computer to use just for surfing the web/online shopping while I’m out on maternity leave. There are some cheap pre-black Friday deals at Walmart right now. Anyone who knows anything about computers willing to take a quick peek and recommend something for me??? thanks!
What is the true reason that people want to work fully remote? I understand saving time/money on commute and still being able to get the work done at home but I’m not getting why some just absolutely DONT want to go to the office at all. Genuinely curious. (FYI I work a hybrid schedule)
Walked my baby to work today in a baby carrier (daycare is next to office). After skipping a morning nap he fell asleep 20 min before I had to be in the office for an internal leads meeting...(cont.)
Got the absolute worst freaking cold at 38 weeks. Had the flu and covid vaccines and am testing negative for covid but omg I cannot shift this after a week and I swear it's getting worse. Any advice for what I can take?! So decongested combined with baby pressing on my lungs makes me feel I'm constantly short on oxygen so just not sleeping at all :(
Two teenagers. Both starting (remote) school in the morning.
As is typical for interactions with teens, I feel like speaking with them about their upcoming school year is as enjoyable as running head-first into a brick wall.
Hi ladies. I hope you’re well. I’m curious if anyone has adopted a child as a single parent?
In the tail end of mid 20s now (so not planning to do it till like my early 30s) but just trying to do research / curious.
Chem classroom social media. Do you use it? I have recently started and had a lot of success this year in terms of student and parent engagement. Please feel free to follow @johnstonchemistry on IG
An orthodox father can really make your life a living hell
You will lose all self confidence, you will question your existence, i spent 25 yrs of my life trying to impress my father but in vain.
Missed all opportunities, lost friends, always scared to do new things because i was pulled back. I repent why i even listened to him
Now I see no point living my life anymore
How soon before your baby's due date did you tell your firm? Any benefits to telling sooner or later?
Does you district make you create short term goals for inclusion students within your IEPs? Do you feel like they are necessary?
How do you handle it when your kid can’t go to school/daycare? Daycare options in my area are extremely limited, and the one are in is pretty good. They are very strict about kids not being there when they are sick, which I appreciate and mostly agree with. Except that the rules are along the lines of if your kid has a temperature over 100, they cannot come in until they’ve been under 100 for 72 hours. According to every doctor I’ve spoke to, 100 isn’t even considered a fever. (See rest below)
I'm fairly new and today was the first time I had to assist a mother who came in to surrender her children, three kids all under the age of five years old... I did my best to remain professional but it was hard to see and be a part of. Has anyone else been in this situation?
What are some racial/gender/age based micro aggressions you’ve experienced in the workplace?
What can legally be asked for maternity leave? My sister got a big packet of questions involving questions about her pregnancy, medications she’s on, etc., from her HR dept to be “approved” for leave. Feels wrong. I have not had to give them anything other than dates for my two leaves.
In real need of help here - F here. My younger brother who is 28 year old does nothing for living. He tries and ends up getting into shortcuts to get rich like gambling and trading and end up losing money that my mom and me end up paying. He will take decisions that will cost a lot of money and in order for us to not feel guilty we keep supporting him and will end up paying for that. All this while having all the latest gadgets that he asks me or mom for and we like idiots end up getting. Cont.

Any consultant in the Bain Austin office who would love to connect? I want to learn more about your experiences at Bain and the journey you took to get to your current position.
Just saw a friend who didn’t know anything about programming got a new job offer at 160k, doubling his previous salary in other fields, after going through a short 3-month boot camp (Code Smith). If the bar is so low (relative to going to do an MD/DDS/JD/MBA) for entry, why do you think not more people have joined the field to balance the pay of SDE when compared to other fields/industries? Kind of labor Econ question. I am curious as I don’t work in this field but many of my friends do.
Anyone know the difference between Core Solutions Engineer and Solutions Engineer? Seems like CSE is entry level?
No weird flex intended: 3 recruiters reached out to me in the last week... but all misquoted my last place of employment. Obviously they are all using templates and forgetting to update them.
Thoughts on VNO. It looks like a bull flag and has plenty to recover from pre-Covid.
- Choice 1: 45C for September
- Choice 2: Selling 45P monthly
- Choice 3: 50C Leaps for 2023 (I prefer to stay relatively close to the spot price here because of potential consolidation in the real estate space leading to a merger).

On the beach by design this week before jumping onto a new gig. I am loving every minute I spend with my kids. Admittedly, next Monday is gonna be rough, but for now, I'm enjoying the time I have!

Took 16 weeks paid leave for my last kid. Didn't read the fine print about it impacting my bonus. Also started hearing that it might extend my time at level. Are other firms doing the same?
What is your firm's parental leave policy?
Just found out we are pregnant with our second. By the looks of it, we are going to be a family of 2 under 2. What is in store for us?
I'm glad that this is fucking on parents. However, we must also focus on the burden of being a working mom and what that does to womens' careers. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/26/upshot/women-long-hours-greedy-professions.html
