SO is an attorney as well and has been diagnosed with a serious illness. We can’t spend much time together due to risk of COVID exposure so it’s really hard for me emotionally. I don’t want it to affect me at work and faking a brave face is so draining. Just needed to vent, I’m so grateful for this group.

Not the exact same, but I recently suffered a miscarriage. I know exactly what it’s like to fake that brave face. ❤️ Can you ask for some personal time off? I took two days (it WAS NOT enough, but helpful).

I am sorry for your loss. It is not a two day recovery period and I know that this will be with you for a long time. Cry whenever you wish and make no excuses for it. To anyone.

I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Do you have someone in your firm you can trust? I made the experience that it can help incredibly if you share your situation with someone you trust and who can help you out here and there if things just get too much.

I second that. I told my boss and one other trusted partner. They were very supportive.

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear you’re both going through this, I completely understand about the feeling of having to fake a brace face. Hope you can take some time to take care of yourself though, maybe with a day off here and there...

I’ve put on about 20 lbs during covid lockdowns and haven’t lost a pound since. My SO loves me but (and I agree) has always been big about us keeping appearance and weight in check, first for our health but also for overall attraction. His take is if a disease somehow made me put on weight there’s not a comment he would make but in this case it’s really bad exercise and diet habits. I don’t disagree but I’ve never been so far from my target weight that I just don’t know where and how (cont)

Anyone who had COVID or pretty sure they had COVID, have you noticed any strange symptoms long after the initial sickness? I exhibited all symptoms in late March for ~10 days and recovered. Since then, I’ve had a few weird 1 day fevers and occasional stomach issues, latest in August. Wanted to see if anyone else had similar experiences.

Just need to vent: my friend refuses to bring up the topic of covid and how it will likely effect her wedding. She’s just moving forward like we aren’t in a pandemic and it’s becoming exhausting trying to be supportive and excited for her when it feels like she’s living in a fantasy world. She just had us purchase bridesmaids dresses and I can’t help but feel like it was a complete waste of a few hundred dollars. I feel bad for having these thoughts but I’m over it.

I broke up just before Covid, not having the slightest clue all this was going to happen. I know it was for the best, but I still keep thinking about my ex (even though he was a tool). I don't think I will meet someone anytime soon, which is fine I guess, but it just feels like the shit hit the fan in all areas of my life and I can't do anything about it. Just needed to vent.

People let go due to covid, what's your plan: Take the first job you can find, even if it's a not great job or at a mediocre agency? Or wait for a better job, but maybe wait a long time? I was at a top tier agency before covid, but now am only finding B tier agencies hiring.

I seriously doubt some of the recruiters and hiring managers in the big4s now a days, their decisions w.r.t. designation and pay depends on their mood and willingness to work on a particular day.. They will interview for X designation and then will ghost you and then will come back with a lower level and pay saying would you be interested?🤣 Why would somebody be interested to join at a lesser pay, when he/she is currently well in his/her job and just found the opportunity more interesting...

In these times, if your referral bonus is $1k or less for seasonal employees you are asking for: 1. Employees who put in work to refer people that end up negotiating a part time option don't work on referring anyone else. 2. If the potential new hire gets an offer, employees have 0 incentive to convince them to accept it. This can even lead to them giving negotiation tips which get the new hire a $5-10k higher offer. They may even recommend accepting a diff firm's offer straight up.
