So is the common cold no longer a thing? Has everything been superseded by COVID?

I had bronchitis a few weeks ago. Friend had it on a camping trip, and everyone got it. He recovered just fine, and was a point of reference. Everyone I knew was terrified. Finally went to the doc just in case, and they were full on covid mode. Full work up, tests, chest X-rays, all of it. All negative. Gave me cough drops. Was good a week later. There’s other stuff out there, and you’re probably more likely to get it than covid.

But I needed antibiotics to kick it.

Those viruses are not gone. However, there are far fewer instances due to people wearing masks, sanitization, etc. Death due to Flu and/or cold is significantly lower because of Covid.

That is correct. The flu was eradicated in 2020.

I disagree. They were labeling everything as death by covid. If someone died from a. Car accident but had a covid positive - the cause of death was covid. Lol

likehelpfulfunny

Oh, C1. She literally explains word for word how the deaths from COVID *are likely undercounted*, why, and that 0.07% of deaths caused by other means (likely data entry/coding error) will be backed out of the stats. Bless your heart. 🤦🏼🙅🏼🙇🏼

I went to a concert this past weekend, and now I have a nasty sore throat (not Covid). Common colds are definitely not gone for good.

I travelled in two spurts during the pandemic. Once around Christmas last year, and once two weeks ago. Both times I was on multiple planes. Both times I ended up with a cold. So yes, the common cold is still a thing.

like

That’s exactly how it works. They said it couldn’t be done! We’ve done it! We’ve cured the common cold!

like

I actually just recovered from a nasty cold. I pretty much had almost all the covid symptoms. Did a covid, flu and strep test. All negative.

Have had it twice this year when I've gotten run down on sleep and they were two of the worst colds I've ever had.

I’ve had colds in the past year. People just don’t talk about it

So far so good! I haven’t had a cold since a bad flu that lasted over 2 weeks in February 2020 - knock on wood. I have noticed my allergies are up this year vs last year however.

like

I haven’t. It most likely wasn’t COVID because I worked around a lot of people and the only other person who was sick was the person I’m sure I caught the flu from. Everyone else remained well.

It’s almost like social distancing, wearing masks and proper hygiene actually work!

They definitely do, but anecdotally I feel like my immune system took too much of a break this year and now every cold has me on the couch for a week. Still better than covid, but frustrating nonetheless.

Hey everyone! Recent transplant (26 F) who moved here during Covid (family reasons) so still not quite familiar with the areas. I’m currently living in Brentwood but looking to move. I’m considering Marina Del Rey as I want to be a bit closer to the office (in Venice) and the airport for when things open back up/travel resumes. I tried searching here but didn’t see a lot - what is the reputation of Mar Vista (and if possible - how is that different than Brentwood?). All opinions welcome! 🙂

What does the Investor Relations career path look like for someone coming in at an early-ish level? I’ve heard it’s kind of dead-end and doesn’t really teach you any hard skills but pretty easy, especially if you can produce a decent track record of fundraising. Anyone know people who took this path?
