So I've had an interview for an EA position. Actually 2 interviews and even shadowed the current EA. I was told they would make a decision quickly as they wanted whoever they hired to train for 3 weeks before the current EA retires. I called the recruiter on Monday of last week and he said they would make a decision by the end of the week...which was Friday. I have not heard anything as of yet, should I call the recruiter today or just wait? Any thoughts on next follow up steps?

I wouldn’t call again. The recruiter may not have an answer yet. You’re eager to work which should be considered a good thing. Unfortunately, in our current climate, your enthusiasm may be viewed as desperation which could hurt your chances.

Agree! I always tell them I’m interviewing for other roles. Best advice I ever received - always assume you didn’t get the job no matter how well the interview was. The mind shift made me more strategic in my job search and took away the disappointment if it didn’t work out.

Recruiters post online all the time that they don’t mind candidates reaching out when they miss a deadline. So if they said we’ll let you know Friday and didn’t reach out Friday, I don’t see any reason you can’t follow up. I would also say if this is a role you’re very interested in, then following up could make you stand out. However, that said, what the others have shared is also valid. Continuing to follow up can make you appear desperate, and tank negotiation strategies if you reveal you’re desperate. but I feel like there’s an easy way to weasel out of that accusation by just simply saying I’m interviewing for several opportunities, but I’m most interested in this one. I do agree that it’s better to assume you don’t have the role, but at the same time if I’m very interested in a role I won’t give up until they tell me it’s over. Perseverance is a strong attribute

I did call yesterday afternoon, and the recruiter was very personable and polite letting me know that the SVP had not made a decision yet. We both kinda chuckled about it and I told him I would wait to hear from him as I'm interviewing for several positions. He politely said I could call him as much as I wanted since I had taken the time to come to the office twice, I deserved an answer. But I will wait to hear from them, at this point I feel like I've shown my interest and now the ball is in their court.

They probably offered the role to their first choice and are waiting on that person to accept/decline. It’s also terrible timing for them to hire and train someone as tons of people take PTO during the holidays. So those are likely the reasons and with this being a short week, I’d wait until Monday to follow up again, personally

like

When were the interviews? The recruiter might be trying to pull teeth to get responses and confirming a hiring/training deadline. Leaving one message for the recruiter is enough for now. Keep in mind that responses to emails and calls tend to dwindle during the holiday season. Also, hiring and onboarding can be a nightmare during this time of year because of everyone's fluctuating holiday schedules.

I would expect a response by the end of the month.

Did they tell you why they went with another candidate? Name the company?

What firm did you interview with?

I would rather not say until I know here back from them as to what their decision is. But I am still looking for EA positions in the Charlotte NC/Fort Mill, SC area if anyone is aware of any.

Just an update guys....I didnt get this job!

The right job will come your way. Just put one foot in front of the other.

Hello Fellow EAs-

I am in the
Amazon Interview Process. I have completed my loop interviews and have scheduled 2 Meet & Greets with the team I will be joining. Are the Meet & greets typically casual, or should I treat them as part of the interview process?

If I get to the Meet & Greet stage, does that mean I will be offered the job, and this is more for me to meet the team? Or is the team still deciding if I am a suitable match versus other candidates?

Thanks in advance!

Typically, if a recruiter reaches out regarding a position that’s not a good fit for you, they’ll say they’ll keep you posted if anything else comes up- and they never do! Why is that? Is there a rule that they can’t reach out again? Are they afraid of being persistent?
