So I've seen a number of articles floating around recently saying all Americans (not just the priority groups) could get the covid-19 vaccines by April. Thoughts on whether that is actually highly likely? I initially thought end of 2021 was more likely, but perhaps I should be more optimistic?

The type of vaccine being developed for COVID-19 is the first of its kind. Vaccines typically have long testing cycles as they can have long lasting negative effects. Vaccine companies have NO legal liability if something goes wrong. I’d rather get COVID19 than take the vaccine.

like

@C3 yes you fine for now. And no I do not trust the science.

I got the Pfizer vaccine already(pretty sure) and I am perfectly fine👍

Yes I am in the trial and hopefully will find out for certain which group I was in when they unblind the trial. This vaccine has already passed the standard safety tests for a vaccine although they did do some in parallel and at larger scale than previous vaccines. If everyone is too scared to take it now due to irrational fears we will all be stuck in this COVID dystopia for a decade, otherwise grow a spine and get the shot sunshine. 😶

Issue is going to be getting people to actually take it

like

50m doses, of which at least half will be in the US. 2 doses needed so 12.5M of Pfizer by end of the year. Moderna says 20M doses by end of year in the US, so another 10M people. 22.5M people by end of December in the US. Assuming they can match or beat that in January, that’s 50M-75M people. Another 50M in February, 100M-125M people.

The distribution will be a nightmare logistically. Taking Pfizer for example - you need to keep the vaccines under -100 degrees at all time, and each person needs 2 doses, 21 days apart from each other. Sending huge amounts of vaccines to hospitals will require huge storage areas with the proper freezing equipment, which not a lot of hospitals are currently able to do due to cost and time. So realistically, unless you are a frontline/essential worker, none of us will be getting the vaccine for a long time. Maybe not until end of Q2 2021

Philosophical question (not trying to be political, just a genuine question I’ve been grappling with): do you think being pro-choice and pro-vax mandate are logically inconsistent? Both are sincere views of mine, but upon further reflection I haven’t been able to think of a way one position could be completely defended without undermining the other. Goes the other way for pro life/against vax mandates as well. The fact is, they just feel different to me, but I’m not sure why. Thoughts?

Returned from sick leave and found out from other people at the office I totally messed up on a project that I worked on prior to sick leave. Now that my reputation has been ruined and facing an upcoming negative performance review. No one at the office stood up for me despite of positive work done prior to COVID or wants to hear what I have to say. I m bothered by this gaslighting practice both professionally and personally. I felt I was designated as the scape goat. Continued.

I gained over 25 pounds over lockdown, went for drinks with colleagues for the first time since March 2020, and the very next day I had other colleagues messaging me on teams and dropping remarks about how they are walking a lot these days to drop COVID weight. It might be a coincidence but probably not. Feels like my weight was discussed a lot behind my back as no one else in the group of people that went out had gained weight.

Question about Covid screenings. About to do a shoot. They’re doing a rapid antibody blood test that you have to pass before you’re let on set. But I thought that these only detect covid 1-2 weeks after infection at the earliest and aren’t useful for screening. Any experience/thoughts?

I don't want to get vaccinated. I have debilitating anxiety, asthma, severe allergies to everything under the sun and afraid of a reaction. I have recently recovered from Covid too. I hate how ostracized society friends work everything is making me feel about this decision, which I know is only an inevitability at this point because my family is overseas and I can't not see them for the rest of my life. Anyone else in the same boat as me? PS. If ur here to bash on me keep it moving.

Anyone else have a personal and/or work space that’s just absolute chaos? I haven’t managed to keep my bedroom/office clean for more than 1 day since COVID (granted it was also messy in the before times). Every surface is covered in laundry / dishes / papers / tech / cosmetics. God forbid my webcam ever shifted from it’s usual position and revealed my quarters to my coworkers (or clients!) Pls tell me I’m not alone in being a fairly well-adjusted adult with the bedroom of a teenager :|

I know we all love the work from home (or do we?) but does anyone actually miss traveling for their consulting engagements and all the fun that goes along with it? The late nights at the office then the bar and random hookups and excitement and all that? Sure it’s a grind but I think I actually miss it too. Maybe I just miss seeing people at work or seeing people at all. I wonder if we’ll ever get back to that.
