So looking to go from Full Time to contract. 😬 I built in some time off into my hourly rate, along with health-care and retirement. I was offered three different packages with vacation days. 5, 10, 15 and they had a rate difference of 0, -$1.22/hr, -$2.40/hr respectively. Any thoughts or guidance?

I would make the decision entirely on if you want those days for your lifestyle or not. If you're not a vacation taker and don't expect any close friends to get married this year - go for the lowest.

I had a friend talk me through this some too. What I found was that if I took 15 days of vacation. The difference between the high end and low end I would actually lose almost 2,500 if I chose the 5 days instead of the 15.

I personally take as many days off a year as seems reasonable. Both for my own life development and being more productive and focused the other days

My first holiday season in-house after a couple of decades in private practice, doing the same kind of transactional work that I’ve always done. My year is functionally done. No one else is around or working. I’ve been so conditioned to expect to grind out through the holidays that it makes me think of how Brooks in Shawshank had become “institutionalized.” I only worked hard the last couple of days because I set some deadlines so as to get things tied up before the holidays - the old mindset!
