I'm all for discussing salary in the workplace, but one counterpoint I want to bring up is that it may not be a good idea when you're working closely together and are at the same level. It may bring up resentment if the other party isn't level-headed because there's so much variability as you progress or are hired in.
I'd personally stick to discussing it with colleagues further removed until I can trust that my project teammate won't hold a difference pay against me.
With that type of entitlement attitude it would make sense why they were paid less.
Very true.. this is also a bit cultural. Asians normally are more open about discussing their salary and again, this is not the norm but I have seen them discuss it more freely than folks from US or Europe.

I disagree. Many people have very high opinion of themselves, their background, and their education but the truth is that each person is evaluated on their own merits. What they were able to accomplish in their last job, their education, even soft skills that they bring to the table, everyone is different. No two people are actually created the same and hence different salary. I interviewed two people for a consultant job and one actually had a degree from a “more prestigious university” but the other one had great interpersonal skills, great communication, solid eYe contact, and I knew the client would love them. So they were paid more and got more incentives to join the firm. I think when you try to compare yourself to other it’s a losing battle.
Everyone has a different price tag. You can not have everyone on the team making the same. It is a unique situation. I had so many situations where managers were making less than SC. And salaries among SC on the same project had 20-25% compensation differences.
Build your skillsets and sell yourself and do not look at others.
