What are some other common tropes of advertising like “experts say” and “sex sells”?

Has anyone actually looked at the math, calculated, and compared a freelance day rate of about 1-1.2k, booked for whatever % of the year, versus a full time staff salary of say, 200k… at what numbers do they even out when you factor in taxes, health insurance, paid vaca time etc? Hard to say which is more lucrative with the variables, but, any insights?

Why do concepts that skew negative always scare us? Almost every memorable / relatable / award-winning ad stems from negativity. Why do we always try to kill it when we know it’s a proven strength?

I get terrible anxiety talking to my boss or sharing any of my work / thoughts / ideas with them, because I know it'll more often than not be torn to shreds / be cut down. I've only had it with this boss.
