So many take home assignments for tech roles. They say you only need 2-3 hours to finish the excel/PPT presentation, but I usually take the whole day. Is this the norm now?

I refuse to interview at any company that has a take home assignment as part of the process. Plenty of fish out there and only when we stop doing these bs take home assignments will this culture stop

The problem is that every candidate says they know Excel. The only way to know if they know it well is to test them. I used to do basic tests for my lower hires every time. Usually quick things like just alphabetizing.

Yes. Same. Im all for technical questions during the interview but will not stand for take home unless the job is gonna be 2x+ my current pay

I have had to do only one take home assignment during my job hunt and doubled my salary thanks to it! As a consultant, this is your one chance to stand out from the rest of the applicants and showcase what you can do on the job. There'll always be someone else that would do it so use it to your advantage if you really want the job. My assignment actually took only 2 hours to complete but I was OCD making sure that it was perfect. I absolutely agree that it's a bad practice but as a hiring manager, it weeds out candidates who talk the talk but can't deliver on the job.

More FAANG roles for me then. I prefer take home assignments to behavorial memorization BS.

But normal it’s take home plus behaviors memorization

Confession - I don't want to go back to office. I'm happy working from home and find no solid reason in stepping back. I hope the flexi work culture allows permanent WFH - I don't have a "good enough" reason, but I don't want to go (isn't this good enough?) It's been 1.5 years now, too comfortable to step out from my PJs to jeans.

Has anyone ever shit their pants at work or on the way to/from work? I’ll go first... Was on my way to my buddy’s place for post-work dranks when I got the sudden urge to poo. Found a house with no lights on and nice bushes out front and pulled over. (Cont’d in comments)
