So my current company decided to match the offer I received. Am I right to counter with I deserve a promotion and more than the match?

If they agree to your counter, they will only resent you for forcing their hand. It's time to leave.

like

Leave....you have decided already why. The reasons are not going to change just because they matched your offer.

like

I would leave, especially if it's outside the Publicis umbrella. If your new endeavor doesn't pan out you can always go back. Often times at a higher salary and promotion. Plus the experience will look good on your resume / book.

like

I'd leave. You've already let them know you looking elsewhere.

like

Since you have an offer already to fall back on, I don't think you have anything to lose with your counter. If they want to retain you, and your counter is reasonable, they do have a choice.

like

Won't hurt to ask. But doubt LB will pony up higher than a match. Godspeed!

like

I think it's a bad idea to ask for more at this point. Telling them about the offer and giving them a chance to counter is basically saying "I like working here and I'd like to stay, but only if you can match". Even though it would be nice if they could exceed your other offer, you can't really expect them to. If you weren't willing to accept the matching offer, I don't think you should have asked them for a counter in the first place, unless you told them up front "i have another offer, this is what it is, I'd be interested in staying, but only if you can provide X, Y, and Z."

like

I believe so but in this current situation we're in, I'd expect they will say they can't get that approved. They'll need the actual offer letter to get it approved for the match I'm pretty sure.

like

Just go.

like

Just leave. It's better to leave.

like

What I would say is only do it if you truly enjoy where you work and you will accept if they do indeed give you the higher amount. We all know how the industry works, I doubt anyone will fault you for looking to seek what you feel you deserve. Just also be prepared to leave if they do indeed not what to raise the offer

like

just photoshop the offer letter with a higher rate so they can match that and enjoy the holidays

like

Leave and bring us all with you. Please. Please help us all!

like

Depends on your other offer, and what drove you to look. If it's just money, follow the cash. If you were looking for something different the bump in cash will only help you on payday. Personally, I've always turned down the counter offer. The important thing is not to leave on bad terms. It's a small world, and it WILL come back to get you if you burn bridges.

like

Never stay for a counter. You'll be disposed of at a time least convenient to you.

like

If you're happy with your current company, I'd go for it.

Didn't ask for the match. The came back with it and asked me to think about it over the weekend.

Ah I see. In that case I think you can ask for more then if it's something you want.

Don't. They already valued you at a certain amount. Asking for more won't get you much and even if it gets you the title, good luck sticking around more than a few months after that

Think if the tables were turned: would you as a manager be loyal to this person who you know has one foot out the door?

I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..

After talks with my regional marketing team (RMT), each of us feels that we deserve a raise and have been underpaid since we began. We are the most productive RMT, we drive global scaling with our work as examples, and train up our counterpart teams across the globe. All of this with half the team members of the other teams and within two years of our existence. Does anyone have guidance or advice on how to raise this type of issue, and how to seek a raise both individually and as a team?

I hate the fact that when recruiters reach out they don’t say what the salary range is, virtual or in-person, weekly hour expectations, how big the accounting department is, or literally anything you would want to know before deciding whether an interview is worth your time.

Hi all, I would appreciate your thoughts - I’ve been really struggling to adjust to long-term WFH and just have been extremely unhappy with it (feelings of isolation, burnout, hopelessness). I realize I’m not spending time on commute and such, not wearing uncomfortable clothes, but I’m still really miserable. I feel like most of my daily joy used to come from live interaction with people. I know many of y’all are really thriving on WFH and need your help / thoughts on how best to adjust. TIA!!

Hi everyone, I need your advice. I've been interviewing with MBB and Tier 2 firms over the past few years. However I was never well prepared for case studies. I now decided to take 6-8 months and seriously prepare for cases/mental math and try them again next year. I currently have Victor Chengs book and few others. What else would you recommend for me? How can i lay out a plan to study? Any source you can recommend free or paid?

This is such a basic question, but what’s the best way to give my two weeks and not have things be completely awkward at work? I’m leaving to do the same type of work, but at a firm that I worked for in law school and that I know has a much better culture. My boss has a tendency to be passive aggressive towards people that are leaving and given that my office is right next to hers I’m worried my last two weeks are going to be so uncomfortable. Suggestions/advice?
