I think you're missing his idea. $150 a night on Airbnb split between him and his friend - I would gladly take $75 a night instead of 1,000 SPG points
You MAY have a workaround if he drafts up am official lease/sublease. IIRC, it's a liability issue which primarily drives Airbnb to be prohibited. I've seen a few cases where people on long term assignment in my city have been able to secure small apartments in lieu of hotels. My assumption is that so long as you and your form are legally protected, you may be able to make a case.
Let's find out .. Who really cares about getting fired for $75 right.. I say go for it OP and let us know..
Oh please. This is wrong on so many levels. Seriously are you guys rookies / entry level consultants or what.
@ZS: here goes:
1)PwC or any other big allows negotiated rates through its travel partners. Everything else is unauthorized. Calling my tinder dates room 'express lodge inn' and expensing it won't fly.
2) do you plan to pay taxes on the income generated from such an arrangement? If not, how do you think your big 4 tax auditor firm is going to take it? Probably not too happily.
3) if this gets broken as news to the clients, and it will because people talk, eventually, how do you think your partner would explain to the clients that his associates are making money from expenses?
4) how will you ever justify an expense budget or flying in to the client site without raising questions about conflict of interest.
There are plenty of more things to think about but consider this food for thought.
^but again, I'm all about experimenting. OP and ZS1 go for it, all the best .. Who wants those 1000 SPG points anyways.. You guys are the Columbus of our generation. You've unlocked and figured out something that all the other thousands of consultants have not been able to. Lead the way and we shall follow. In short, let me know how it goes . OP which firm are you from, big 4?
What did I say? If PwC doesn't allow Airbnb then it obviously doesn't work. At ZS they don't give a shit where we stay as long as the cost is reasonable so it would work for me. Point 2: fine, I'll pay taxes. Happy? Points 3-4: don't talk about it? That seems pretty easy to me
If I stay with him at a cost slightly lower than LA hotels, is that legit?
Nope
No
* an; firm 😁
Yeah create a lease, u need to hv receipts, Ur friend needs to show this as income. Also check if ur company policy allows airbnb
At ZS we are allowed to stay at Airbnb so I say go for it. Obviously depends on your firm though
Why though? Why would you give up the points and all the conveniences of a hotel to stay in your friends apartment? I think you're missing the point of a career in consulting...
Sweet ain't it. 75 a night, nearly 2.2k a month
@ZS1 got it.
I feel like you could do it. Why not? Who would care?
@P2 it's not a question of getting fired. If PwC allows Airbnb stays then it's not a problem. If they don't, then it is a problem.
@PwC2 PwC
