Yes people do indeed get covid

- my fam (me, wife, 1-year-old) got it. baby had 104 fever for a day, then went away. wife and i have coughs and congestion. both boosted. lasted about 2 days, slight coughs still.
- sister fam got it (she, husband, 1-year old) all had fevers and congestion and fatigue. still drained.
- sister fam got it (she, husband, 12-year old and 8-year old). kids don’t feel much (12 is vaxxed) husband is in bed, congested and fever. she is congested. both vaxxed, no boosts. still feeling it.
- sister didn’t get it. (she, husband, 13-year old, 9-year old). they all are unvaxxed, have gotten covid twice in the past year.
- parents didn’t get it…maybe. didn’t test, but no symptoms, and are boosted. isolating just in case.
all in all, boosted seems to help all those who got it, just sniffles. 2-dose vax feeling it harder, like a bad cold. maybe natural immunity helped those who got covid twice. kids didn’t seem bad overall (other than our 1-year old with the fever that freaked us out).
So did you get it from your unvaxxed family then?

no idea. we all have been pretty responsible, but did an outdoor light-viewing wagon ride locally (private wagon, our own family) two days before and then a few kids went bowling the day before we showed symptoms. and some family had arrived two days before (all drove in).
so could’ve been them, could’ve been the kids, could’ve been the one event we did.
we all broke out with symptoms within 24 hours of each other. but this strain seems to be super quick.
Did pediatrician tell you anything for 1 year old? Have a little one too and not sure what protocol is if he ends up getting it

she did. basically had similar protocols for all things:
- keep an eye on the fever for 24 hours, if it doesn’t stay down with medication (tylenol/motrin), go to ER
- if it keeps spiking in between medication for 2-3 days, go to ER, could be a separate infection
- monitor eating, fatigue, diapers, and keep drinking water (milk tends to coat mucous so it’s harder to cough out, etc)
luckily, ours broke the fever in 24 hours, and it stayed down with no meds afterwards. had a little cough for 48 hours. but other than that, was totally himself (albeit a little tired, and drank a shit ton of water), so doc was not worried.
she also essentially said if any of us (me or wife) caught covid, so did he, even if tests came back negative, because the nasal canal at his age is so short and he doesn’t have much mucous, so it may not show up on tests. (we did rapid since no way he’d let us do the PCR deep nasal one.)
Ours too. My sister’s entire family came down with it, right after my BIL had his booster. Kids are partially vaccinated, sister has had two doses.
BIL is early 40s and fit. Has been coughing and having anxiety from not being able to breathe. His doctor ordered an oximeter for him but it never showed up.
Sis had horrible headaches. It hit her first. She hasn’t had the coughing which is good but has been very tired and feverish. My nephew has been coughing really badly. My niece felt sick for 24 hours but she’s fine now.
We only saw them once on Christmas day and we were supposed to spend the whole week together. I think we are in the clear, we tested negative on Thursday. My main concern was for my parents, but so far they seem to be OK too.
We also have one unvaccinated toddler in our family but he’s ok. His parents are both teachers so we were glad they didn’t get sick either. However my BIL’s sister and her boyfriend got it.
Glad your family is recovering!
My 6 month old got it too. 101 fever for a day and a little cough (which she was amused by and now just coughs to entertain herself 🤦). Napped for 2 days and was fine.

the “coughing to be funny” thing is sooooo annoying…

does it end with “xoxo, gossip girl”? then what do you think?

Seems like natural immunity is working
Enthusiast
well, they did get it twice (three times for one) already, so at least it worked this time. almost like three doses was needed 🤷♂️

My anecdotal experience is that many around me have bad colds - the people affected include vaxxed, boosted and un vaxxed - no difference
