So Peter Thiel left Meta's board. I have a theory but curious as to what others think about him leaving? Was it a dispute at the top or is it really so that he can spend time on other interests?

I think he feels morally compelled to fight the progressive left. I agree. It’s a full time job.

I, for one, don't mind seeing him go.

I'm not sure anyone will ever really know the reasoning behind his decision. I'm sure it was deeply personal.

This might be a long shot but I'm looking for a volunteer who is trying to break into a federal career. Maybe a transitioning veteran, recent grad, or career-changer.

I'm pursuing my master career coaching cert and need to do a recorded 45-minute session. You don't have to be identified if you don't want to.

The single session is all I'm asking but could certainly turn into a longer lasting coaching relationship (at no cost), if you like.

I love my job and the people I work with, but there’s one thing that really bothers me: the lack of diversity. Sometimes when I walk into the office and see everyone else around me as the only POC, it feels kind of weird. I don’t think anyone here has ever said anything racist or sexist to me personally, but I don’t feel comfortable talking about these issues with anyone because they might take it personally and then things could get awkward between us.

Does anyone have experience in saying f*ck it and just learning to code?

Would love to hear how you started and what resource you used! Humble brags highly encouraged!

Goal would be the clichè product management exit (with a couple steps to get there likely)

I've recently been seeing more people talk about human capital and psychological capital and was wondering if anyone had any resources for someone that doesn't have formal training in HR. Books, websites, podcasts, honestly anything to help connect some dots for what it is and how it fits into the workplace.

I recently had someone from Google reach out about discussing some opportunities for me there. I am completely new to software engineering as I’ve only been in my current role for about 10 months. Any and all tips/advice welcome!

My team has interviewed several candidates graduating from Canadian universities recently, and started to notice that their thesis projects seem to be noticeably stronger than those we've seen from US schools, even for similarly-ranked programs; we've started to adopt a rule of thumb that a UT/McGill/UBC MS is worth about as much as a Berkeley/CMU/Stanford PhD. Has anyone else experienced this, or might we chalk it up to selection bias?

Happy Friday friends!

I just got out of a call with a recruiter who offered me the job. I have not signed anything yet.

I do have another interview next week, what do I do with that? Do I cancel? Do I take it?

Company A
- Extended offer
- Medium Corporation
- $90-100K
- hundreds of employees

Company B
- 4th round next week
- Small Start-up with VC funding
- ~ $100K
- About 35 employees

The duties of both roles is simiar

Thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

Asking for a friend: "I have a vacation scheduled for the week of Aug 16. Last week, I got a job offer and I accepted it. Yesterday, I submitted my notice for my currently job. I gave them one week because of my already scheduled vacation and the new job wants me to start on the 23rd. Now my current job is threatening to deny my PTO that they already approved." What would you do?

Do you ask for the salary during the initial phone screening for a new role? I’ve heard mixed feelings about this and curious what folks think is appropriate.
