So sick of my job (I’m a junior commercial litigator) but the local market is taking a crap and I can’t find a new one. Can’t get enough hours here either. How do I keep my spirits up?

Idk. Id get holed up with an italian hottie. Sure i might catch a bit of a cough, but an italian smoked sausage is rather choice

There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly.

Do something you enjoy while you’re still at that job. If it’s listening to music while you’re there or talking to people if you don’t have the billable work you might as well take advantage until you get more work or while you’re doing the work try to immerse yourself and enjoy it. Try to work out as much as you can it might get you in a good mood see family and friends bring yourself to a higher place and vibe that way you can hopefully attract a better place to go.

like

Basically somehow making the best of it and just appreciating that at least you have a paycheck will help you feel better and in turn make the process of looking for your next place easier.

Take a vacation. Sounds like early stages of burnout.

like

A donut is a circular burnout. To do a donut, find a large open area with no other cars, lampposts or other things you can hit. It is easy to lose control of a car with a donut. Begin driving in slow circles and then hit the gas hard so that the rear tires begin to lose traction, holding the wheel in the same position to perform the spinning donut

How do your employees reach out to HR if they have questions on benefits, paychecks, issues at work, complaints, sick time, etc. ? Is there an email distribution list for each area like payroll, benefits or a general HR inbox where the emails get distributed to the entire HR team? Or do you use Slack or a ticketing system like Zendesk to filter inquiries?

We went from 800 to 1,600 employees in 4 years and it’s now challenging to have the HR inbox as all 6 of us in HR & Payroll get those emails

In February of this year I was approached by a company out of Colorado that’s an AWS reseller (I love working w/ AWS Products). They offered a great 6-figure salary, unlimited PTO, full medical/ dental & Wellness benefits. Things felt too good to be true at first yet I know my worth and thought about time, a company finally saw my worth also, so I resigned from the company I spent over 12+ years with. Things were going great, then June I was placed on a bogus PIP (fully Corrected) then laid off.

I left auditing for an accounting manager role. My company is in the medical device space and, in working on monthly close tasks, I notice that some sales people do very well. I know sales is more commission heavy, but part of me still thinks about the “what if” I was able to switch. In getting to know some salespeople, they seem to come from all types of backgrounds, from business to public health. I have limited knowledge in the medical space, but I’m willing to learn. Any advice? Drop it?

RANT. ugh. I realize pharma ad is still a creative field but lord Jesus why is my worth as a writer based almost entirely on my concepting skills?! That is SUCH a small part of this. I know data like the back of my hand. I understand strategy as well as planners. I know the science just as well as some of our medical people. I write approvable, emotional messages. And I do it all well before deadline. But I can't get a concept through and it's stressing me out so much that I want to quit. RANT.

Confession - back in January my girlfriend and I got KBBQ in k-town NYC. I got really sick from it and needed an emergency bathroom but we were out walking in the streets. I couldn’t find a public restroom for the life of me. I did my best to hold it for 40 minutes while we rode the subway. My gf and I parted ways and I made it to the shuttle on my way to grand central thinking “if I can just make it to grand central, I can use a public restroom”. Anyway, I JUST missed the shuttle departing

What do you do when you’re toosick to get something done (like, food poisoning - not talking a cold) and you have a deadline? I’m a fifth year associate in m&a for context. I’ve told a partner that I have a stomach bug twice (once I had norovirus brought home with my toddler from daycare, once I had food poisoning from a bad buffet) and each time I’ve been met with disdain. Like clearly maybe saying I have a stomach bug is TMI; but still feel the need to justify more than “I'm sick”

While wrapping up my old job, I was still interviewing at other agencies and finally moving to offer stage (ill get a promotion + 15k raise). Agency has core values that match mine and better benefits with summer Friday's off 😎

I freelance PM for a small firm, 2 male owners, all else are ICs. When managing certain campaigns I am the ONLY one from my team doing the bulk of the work. My agency’s profit margins are ridiculous. Example, they’ll charge a small firm $10k for a project that costs them $3k. I, who will have managed the entire project, might pocket up to $1k. The owners, who do nothing, pocket $6k. Yet when I ask for a raise, it’s a big issue. I love the work, but I am clearly underpaid and valued. Need advise!
