So teachers have to go back to the classroom even though we are still remote. The justification is to "prepare for going f2f" but there's no date for that yet. Is the real reason because they don't trust us to do our jobs?

My district has a policy that if all grades are virtual, then teachers can work from home. However, even if only elementary is in person, then all teachers (even Ms and Hs) have to teach from the building. They say it is because teachers have more access to resources in our classrooms, allowing us to provide better instruction. But, if that were truly the case, then why let us stay home at all? I would argue that my students seeing me in my home makes them feel more at ease, like we are in the same situation together. When I was in my classroom the students knew I was, and would say, "How come you get to go to school but I can't?" There have also been times when I would send my students on a scavenger hunt in their homes to find things that related to the lesson. I would do it along with them and it was a blast, and really showed me if they were comprehending or not. I can't do those types of activities and generate those feelings if I am not "in it" with the kids. It's just a weird argument that probably comes down to parents needing childcare, admin thinking teachers are "lazy", or people who argue "My tax dollars are supposed to be for schools and teachers in the schools. I want a refund." Another argument that is rediculous!

We had that same announcement today...”because it feels different!” I do recall one of our Teachers teaching from her classroom at school got Covid back in November and they had to shut the building down and there were NO STUDENTS in sight!!! They just want to appear to be doing something! Are they going to provide vaccines prior? PPE? COVID Quarantine Days?

We have been F2F since August. We did have 8 remote days right before Christmas break and we were expected to be at school to teach. I think it is clear that they don't trust us to do our jobs from home. Pathetic!

Yes, that's exactly what it is.

Their justification is that we a) have all of our resources at school, b) good internet connection, and c) support of our colleagues. The truth is, there were many last spring who did not work at home. They even posted pictures of being at the pool with their kids in the middle of the school day!

What drives me crazy about the "everyone has to come in because some people didn't work in the spring and posted about it on social media" thing is that none of those teachers were threatened with a job action because of it. Another in a loooooooong list of examples where administrators punish a whole group of faculty because of the lazy actions (on inactions) of a few.

Our school has a very diverse population, but our district and building don’t embrace it very well, so I decided to start in my own classroom. I talked to my kids about family origins and then surprised them with a flag from each country of origin. Now when they walk in there is a small representation of who they are. It also sparks conversation about where the different flags are from and shows students just how diverse we all are. So far the kids love it and we’ve had some great conversations.
