Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. I went through all the stages of interviewing with a firm then they chose not to fill the position. They said internal priorities changed. I saw about 5 months later they posted a similar position. Guess who has another interview!

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that. Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. (I’m a first year, first time negotiating a settlement on my own and I don’t want to screw this up!)

Advice on managing up / enduring toxic deal teams? I’m at the point where my stomach drops any time I see something come in from certain people. Everything is behind, client is unhappy, I’m exhausted and simultaneously being micromanaged without guidance on big-picture/substantive issues. About to turn down a job offer that would nearly double my salary after speaking to several former associates of the firm and hearing some not so great things. The word “sweatshop” was used multiple times yet I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around it. This is truly “you can’t pay me enough to be part of that” in action. I am a federal government attorney (DOJ) with 2.5 years of litigation and bankruptcy experience. I want to break into tech companies/finance and apply for jobs @ Google, Robinhood, etc. Does anyone have any connections I can leverage?

I have a somewhat unsteady, gappy work history due to several health issues — serious ones — that have gotten in the way since I passed the bar. My first major health issue I can easily explain as it’s physical, a major concussion. My other health issues are severe depression that affected my ability to work steadily. I am better finally, and ready to get back to work, but I don’t know how to explain this or even approach this during interviews/resume writing.
