So tired of bosses/team members boasting about being ‘a straight shooter’... it just means they are going to be an a-hole but can dress it up as a leadership style...what are other red flag quotes?

There’s an art to giving criticism in a way that inspires people to be better

like

Nope. Actually happy with direct feedback for the most part... but when people like to tell you how direct they are or wear it like a badge of honor it tends to mean they are more of a bully than just ‘straight shooting’ . It’s pretty easy to be like that when you are more senior than everyone else in the room. I also find it’s these folk who haven’t actually come up with a good idea in a very very long time....

like

Anyone who says, “low hanging fruit,” is an idiot

And FYI ‘being direct’ doesn’t actually count as a skill (look, see I am doing it now! It’s easy, lazy even....)

"i am so type A" = I am going to be an asshole

like

When someone says "I am a straight shooter" before they give unpleasant feedback they are telegraphing that they are worried about delivering said feedback. Inherently, if this is required then the feedback is likely a surprise to the recipient. This speaks volumes about the straight shooter's poor communication ability.

like

The best way to deliver negative feedback is to be very fact based and direct. But no one is all negative in all aspects. I try to ensure to share 3 observations, 2 positive and 1 constructive in all my feedback sessions. And these should be regular events, not after an emergency meltdown.

"taking a step back " = I think my point of view is superior to anyone elses

In my experience people who are proud to be “straight shooters” tend to be absolute assholes and get insanely defensive when you “tell it like it is” to them.

like

I like to call the 3 observation approach "the shit sandwich". Positive feedback bookends the constructive feedback. 🍞💩🍞

It really does work.

And agreed Havas 1 (the above was for SAD 1!)

“The headline is” which means whatever that is doesn’t matter - it’s everything that follows which is usually a pile of shit or some piece of criticism with the intent to intimidate or undermine

Hi all- I’m making the switch from an admin to a consultant (I’m the nonprofit sphere) in the coming months. I have a good handle on the technical side of what i need to know, but having never worked for a consultancy in the past I’m wondering if y’all have any resource or tips to prepare on that front.

For example:
-how companies typically track billable hours
-common challenges/pitfalls for new consultants
-good tips for staying organized across multiple projects

It is often seen in tech roles that employees are able to do remote work. I wonder how engaged do these workers feel with the companies they work. Are these freelance? Full time? How do you get paid? The startup I work with provides perks and benefits to remote workers in addition to pretty convenient payment solutions (crypto, our e-Wallet, banks worldwide), and therefore I’d like to get to know your thoughts on this!

My role also includes internal comms for the HR team, Engagement initiatives, performance process & annual merit support, and I host team Predictive Index sessions weekly.
