Wait a business made money by operating their business? How dare they!

like

So I arrive at JFK and I'm fucked because taxis don't want to pick me up. Uber's response is to say "let's try to help people who are stranded at airports" and everyone gets mad at them?

like

Taxi drivers, MANY who are immigrants, joined the protest in solidarity against the Muslim ban. What was Uber's response? To drop surge pricing at the airport and break the strike. Since Uber's CEO is a known supporter & financier of both Breitbart and Trump and sits on his economic advisory team, Uber's move was in direct support of the ban and this false-dictatorship we are calling a presidency. In combination with the above and Uber's ongoing shady treatment of its employees, it's time to take all of their $$$

like

@Z1 No, I completely get your point and it is unfortunate that that was the collateral damage. And from a business perspective, on the surface, it's a capitalist move. Take advantage of unique situation for gains to bottom line. But, as I mentioned above, with the CEO's affiliations, hard for me to believe that this also wasn't a maneuver to attempt to undercut the protest. For me, this move, the ongoing dispute with their drivers on employment status (Uber considers them independent contractors, not employees), and the fact that Lyft stated they are donating $1 million to ACLU over the next few years (again, SHOUTOUT TO LYFT) was enough for me to take my business elsewhere. You and anyone else who don't feel that way, are free to keep using it as you wish.

like

That's definitely not their primary motivation Z1. That being said I know a few people very senior at Uber and re: politics they're on the side of angels

like

The fact is that the taxi ban hurts no one except the people arriving on planes. If I was getting into JFK I would be pissed at the taxis. I would not be pissed at trump. Uber took advantage of that and I would have been very happy to have had an option if I was at JFK last night

like

I was not aware of this info on Uber And Lyft. Thanks OP. Will be researching this. If what you state is true, I'm taking my business to lyft

like

Uber is also paying their employees impacted by this a salary whilst they can't work

like

Ah yes @C1, glad you brought that up that name. Jesus Christ was from the Middle East and wouldn't be allowed in the US under the current President's EO, no?

like

@op I think he was from Bethlehem/Jerusalem which is in Israel/West Bank so he would be allowed ;)

It's funny how people claim to "respect freedom of choice" but then decide not to give money to a business based on who the company supports.

FYI to BCG folks: I have long preferred Lyft, but policy only allows Uber.

It was hard on passengers at the airports, so frankly the taxi drivers should not have called for strike. But Uber CEO urging his employees to work with trump administration and he being in trump advisory council is appalling!!!!

BCG1... I had no idea our policy only supported uber. Is this new and do you know why?

The funniest thing is you think this will actually happen . I thought you were a consultant 😏

False dictatorship? Jesus christ

@ey1 Ford did business with the Germans and looked the other way in WW2 . But hey I see your point, make money for the investors at any cost!

@ZS1 @OP he grew up in Egypt as well based on a quick google, he would also be allowed from there.

FWIW, Peter Thiel owns a big stake in Lyft and is a huge trump guy. I think you are f'ed no matter what.
