Market conditions blah blah blah. Was a total shock. I got an email invite from a random partner. Went in the next day and met with the partner and hr who told me it was my last day.

like

Sucks that it was a random partner. Should have come from one you worked with ...

like

Yea had the partner I work with tell me he tried his hardest to stop it so he prob didn't want to do it.

I am so sorry.

He/she is a p*ssy. Good riddance!

Market condition or over reliance on USI?

What group?

Sorry man - pretty good number of pure body-count-based layoffs at a bunch of places including here and really just shitty luck to [lose] the lottery so to speak...

There's still plenty of work out there. Take some time to reassess and anyone on here would split the referral bonus with you I'm sure!

You'll end up in a better spot, have faith!! 👍

Pretty sure PwC is in a hiring freeze. I heard we aren't taking in any outside experienced hires. Only building through the intern pool

Into for Tax, they have a lot still open.

I have a 25K loan from my MBA. I paid off 100k whole, after graduation. 3 years ago, I moved my loan from federal to private ( SOFI) account. I recently lost my job. I have applied for unemployment, as the severance that I received will only cover for 2 months. Together my husband and I used to make less than 250k after tax. Now, with a loss of pay , we are going to make less. Do you think I will be eligible for Loan forgiveness?

Anyone dealt with age discrimination at work or thought they were fired because of it? I have a strong hunch I was let go because I'm older than most of the team and they're trying to get a "fresh perspective." To me it just sounds like they're firing anyone over 50.

Anyone have any idea when the hiring freeze might end within AWS ProServ? I’m currently at Amazon and have a TS clearance, PMP & CSM. I come from a Big4 consulting firm with a background in Enterprise Performance. I’ll be honest and say I’m not feeling very safe in my current role with the ongoing layoffs. Instead of leaving, I’d love to go back to my “consulting roots” and join the ProServ team. I’m taking my AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam next weekend. Hoping this freeze is lifted soon.

If you are fired at the end of a PIP (ie 30 day performance plan) what is the most common practice for severance? I know companies are not entitled to give you anything and especially if it’s a firing not a layoff.

Follow up post to my last post…My husband was laid off from the company where I also work. I am feeling really isolated / depressed about working and moving forward. I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞

Anyone else notice a trend with the mass amounts of layoffs in tech? Why are all their resumes so jumpy? Not like 2-5 years jumpy, like few months at a time jumpy? But still can land a position with similar tech giants? IMO, lots of these people get hired by their rich friends, stay a few months before someone realized they aren’t qualified and were just a recommendation from a current employee. Then repeat that process over and over until your company is down 50%

Just got out of a meeting with a client. Talk about uncomfortable- they'd fired their director that morning and he ran in screaming at the team. They ended up calling security to kick him out!

Hi everyone, share your blindsided layoff stories below so I can feel a little bit better about mine.

Covered a managers meeting for her yesterday, was with some senior members of the marketing team. A director opens the call with “we are so sorry about the impacts the layoffs have had on your teams today…” then noticed I was in the call and said “we are still notifying others so best to keep it under the radar” …25% of my team was let go three hours later with no warning😬

Looking for respectful ways to manage helping people in need of a job or seeking mentorship. I get 3-4 requests a week from mutual contacts asking if I can connect with a former colleague (always broad). Typically the ask is a 30-45 min call. I’ve been laid off, I know how hard a time it is, but equally am working long hours, parenting and want to reserve time for those I know. How do others manage these extra calls into their weeks?

like

So what’s the protocol on being harassed by a former employee - one that reported to you but that the company on the whole fired. For harassment, no less. This guy just can’t let it go after YEARS.

I have a gov law job with an offer to go to a great firm as a mid-level associate. Worried that if COVID continues, I’ll get laid off (much less likely at my gov job). Should I wait or go?

RE has slowed down IMO. Still some work in multifamily and new construction/development (and workouts/restructurings/foreclosures), but hotels, office, retail not doing great at the moment for obvious reasons. Have heard of multiple layoffs, but not mass layoffs yet, and I don’t think we’re going to mass layoffs since this is clearly a temporary pandemic related issue.

Would love to hear from others on what they’re seeing in RE. Please share your geographic market/firm size/relevant info.

Hi all, I got laid off from my current company (product based) a month ago. Since then I've been looking for new opportunities. I got an offer from a good product based company with a good package and also my current company offering me rehire with promotion and a good package. I have a good rapport with my current manager, and he played a major role in offering this rehire opportunity. I'm confused about making the right decision here. Kindly share your views. Both offers are pretty much same.

How do you approach collecting documents from a client in response to discovery requests? Particularly with broad and vague document requests that leave you guessing about what the other side is looking for, even after you meet and confer. I’m realizing no one ever taught me a systematic approach to this problem. And that big, name-brand companies are absolutely terrible about record-keeping or even knowing what records they have.

Hey all! Heading into my 4th interview at a global SaaS company this week. I have a year of product marketing experience at a startup (I'm owning all PM efforts for a massive product), and the role I applied for asked for 3-5 years of experience.

Any tips on how I can prep for these interviews? They're with a few Sr. Product Marketing Managers on the team. I've already done an HR screening, call with the hiring manager, and deeper dive with another Sr. PMM.

Any advice is appreciated!

I have to travel to my client every week and the client’s office is attached to a very nice hotel that’s $250 per night. There’s a hotel right across the street that’s $150 per night.. it’s alright, but not as great. Should I be mindful about how much I’m spending or should I blow up the budget until someone says something?

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
