So we’re good that the president of the United States instructed military to tear gas and shoot with rubber bullets those folks peacefully protesting? We’re good that president of the United States instructed the military to attack Americans on American soil (for a photo op)?
Cool, cool.
Of note the folks that were tear gassed and shot at (with rubber bullets) were not looting, were not starting fires, they were chanting as people do during protests.

Update based on new information: pepper balls were used against Americans (not tear gas and rubber bullets as previously reported)
Because most gun owners just want to be perceived as patriotic instead of actually being patriotic. And their patriotism is only applicable as they define it. Firearms are their way of winning the argument and legitimizing their views. I'd say 95% of firearm owners use their possession of firearms in this regard. Firearms are a way for them to hold you accountable while not holding themselves to that same accountability. They just want to win. How do I know?
I used to sell firearms for a living back in the Midwest during the Obama days when I wasn't bartending, eventuallyeven being full time. Business was good.
As a veteran, it was a fun job, especially since all my other co-workers were veterans and we laughed alot. I got to work with some really cool hardware. The demographic was mostly rural White Conservative, with suburban White Conservatives. We'd get the occasional Hispanic or African American, but 98% of the time, it was White Conservatives. In that type of job you really get to know the community. They feel safe to tell you how they feel.
It was cool talking to hobbyists, and really understanding the industry. Hunters will teach you alot, and there is a need to defend oneself, especially home defense. But the downside is you see what that community is really like, how many are itching for a revolution "at the drop of a hat", the conspiracy theories, the amount of money they have to blow, the categorization of people into target groups, the military and police worship, the pent up anger, the blind support of the Republican party, the complete commitment to cherry picking to support their view, etc. A bunch of grown men looking for reasons to use what they had. First day on the job, the guy who was training me told me the real reason why he was there was to support the revolution and inform the masses. I swear the only research they did was on what they were going to purchase.
And what was most disturbing: we saw a ton of stolen valor amongst that demographic. I have never seen so many people saying they had served, were cops, or used to be cops when they never did. It was infuriating, but great because we called them out every time in front of everyone, and it would happen at least twice a week and we would laugh at them. We also saw cops legitimately weighing purchasing the .50 rifle we had on display for department use on multiple occasions, also telling us how they rig the trigger well to make their ARs automatic. We also would see actual state representatives come in and stoke their base, specifically calling liberals a target. I've had people tell me that they really knew was happening in Iraq/Afghanistan because they had some back channel ways of speaking to generals, but they had never been outside the state. It was surreal and that's not the end of. he peculiarities.
I had this type of role in more locations than this one, but I was at that one the longest. The other locations were pretty much the same.
I eventually left that industry because the shear amount of misinformation, hypocrisy, the palpable entitlement, posturing and just blatant disregard for people in general, plus the money just isn't that good. At the core of it, it's a bunch of adults that just want to be in charge and show "how things really should be done".
More than happy to answer questions.

Good point to aim for something with at least some semblance of being achievable, like background checks. I honestly believe that the majority of gun owners are “good” people and I also think you’re right about building good will - a large majority of gun owners actually support background checks.
What are your thoughts on smart gun/biometric technology to secure firearms?
Why would I want to fight back the government who is preventing riots and chaos from spreading any further? Preventing riots and anarchy is one of the only things the government is meant to do.

@D1, cops also have an option to quit if they don't like their jobs or don't feel safe. Citizens cannot "quit" being oppressed by the police.
There’s nothing tyrannical about opposing riots
Right, the reasons for opposing riots is what makes it tyrannical
Come on now y’all....these protest have been mostly peaceful. Try switch the news channel away from 🦊
Riots aren’t peaceful but do occur when the protest voice is purposefully delegitimized. I’m sure there’s riots in many cities but confusing them for protests and protests with riots by intentionally pointing out the difference between them or understand why each occurs for different reasons will make them seem like the same. When they aren’t.
From the 2 days I’ve gone this week and all the protests I’ve been compelled to attend before this, my gut would put the protester to rioter would, at worse be 100:1
We never left
Lol like the cnn segment that said the protest was mostly peaceful, and there was a giant fire in the background? I’d prefer to just stay away from fox/cnn in general
The video of the CNN reporter saying it's been a peaceful protest as the "peaceful protesters" are yelling slurs at him and then throws bottles and rocks. He continues to say it's peaceful as he's ducking. Hilarious
What about if president declares martial law and you can’t leave your house? Will you be shooting at the military enforcing the order? People brought assault rifles to a government building over this exact issue already.
I seriously question if the military would enforce the order. Most vets I know, including the one I’m married to, are very strict constructionists and would absolutely revolt over the military doing that.
We’re here. We are preparing.
No you're not.
The most pro-2nd amendment staunch conservative (not a militant libertarian) I know posted to this effect saying how horrifying it (specifically referencing a video from MSP where the officers shot at a group of women gathered on the porch) was and how this is exactly why the 2nd amendment is needed. One data point, but I’m sure there are other out there
@Accenture who is you people here?
@D1 makes sense. Paintballs would be the normal term for them.
Ain't no smart 2nd amendment folk in these big cities right now. They left when Lockdowns started. Cuz they know the only way to enforce them if things with covid got worse, was thru force.
If things keep up the way they’re going, they’ll show up. But for most, George Floyd’s death won’t be the catalyst. It’ll be the police brutality spilling into the general public, like shooting people on the porch.
