Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

Car theft is on rise in my area. I want to put safeguards in my car like gps tracker or anything that's available commercially. I heard phone companies have something that uses their cellphone towers to keep track. Any suggestions on gps trackers or other brand products. I am really worried that due to car shortage and job losses thefts are going to go up. Car dealerships are having wait times of 5-6 months for new cars so any theft would create lot of trouble for our young family.

To people who live in tier1/HCOL areas, how do you rationalize the sky high housing costs? Especially, the perpetual property tax. Genuinely curious.

A friend, and neighbor, move from a tier 3/4 city to the Bay Area. We had similar homes, around 2,000 sq ft and valued apprx $350k. They paid $1.2M for a smaller house, on smaller land. They now pay $36k/year in property tax; mine is $4k. That's just insane to me!
