Consider it this way. If someone in our respective companies did something really stupid, would we resign from the company because of someone elseās stupidity??? No. So letās at least give Starbucks for at least making tangible moves to clear this up. Their company hires are very diverse and ditching the company hurts everyone. Theyāre shutting the whole company down for a day of training. Much more than many other orgs I know. Will it help? Hope so but no guarantees.
It would be a different thing if there was indifference from leadership.
I just put money on my card and had a free drink reward š«. Insert Michael Jordan crying face.
@OP I see what you're saying. But Starbucks is one of the most liberal companies in the world and they have been taking steps to make sure this doesn't happen again... Hence their action in requiring employees to take classes... Hence the holiday cup fiasco... Hence the "let's talk about race" thing they had going on a couple of years ago. What I'm saying an isolated incident does not mean we should boycott an entire company when the company's overall message supports our movement.
If in DC, Philz Coffee, Compass, local coffee houses or any local Black business... I was just discussing with someone a sit on across consulting agencies... what if we all ended up doing that. Thatās a place that all of us generally have to meet up with people anyways. I def think Starbucks should have offered more than just an apology... what about the termination of that employee for not getting their policies correct. Everybody knows Starbucks is a free Wi-Fi hub for working and non working ppl...
They did end up firing that employee
M1 - I donāt believe that has been announced. I believe they only confirmed they moved her to a different store
Come on guys... we really shouldn't be blaming the entire company for this. There's thousands of Starbucks and this was an isolated incident with one manager at one out of a thousand stores. I've studied a bunch of times in Starbucks without paying a penny and have had no problems. Don't fall for the media divisiveness smh...
K1 you gonna have to take this L for the culture! š
M1 & M2 what about the 2nd video that came up today...
I think the Starbucks in Philly should face the consequence, I don't think Starbucks as a corporation should, there's nothing that has shown me that this isn't an isolated situation, I've read the person has been fired, that makes sense, but I also realize that no matter how many trainings, interviews or cultural awareness campaigns organizations have that there are some racist people in the world and sometimes you can't filter them out, if this was an occurrence that you hear about often in Starbucks then I would be all for a boycott bc it would be a culture thats fostered by the company, but I just am not seeing that in this case. this sounds like individuals at this location

What 2nd video?
A šøš¾walked into the elevator today with Starbucks.. I didnāt even ask what floor she was headed to....
A2... a company as wealthy as Starbucks has the brain and manpower to figure it a way to reduce or eliminate implicit bias from their business or services.. itās actually their corporate responsibility.. the size and reach actually further implores them to take action as opposed to them being off that hook which is what I think you are suggesting.. just my opinion tho
Nobody went to jail when the cups turned red.. so I think the message has to be crystal clear that to involve police in matters regarding black people is an escalation that may have grave consequences so check your bias at the door.. if this was not happening may 29 I would not be going back
Slalom 1 patronizing and resigning from a place is apples and oranges... either way #Wakandans may proceed with our guilty pleasures...
