Explain to me like I’m 5. Why does the monthly billable hours goal on things like Intellistat change month to month. I’m not hitting hours this year. Last month goal was 158. This months goal is 180.

I was at an event where one attorney told 1Ls “If you want biglaw, you will eventually get it,”even if you strike out in school.” I was just taken aback since some of these students weren’t from schools that normally place into biglaw (e.g., T4). She went to my school, and I agree with her that, if you want biglaw with a JD from my school, you will probably eventually get it. I know lateraling in later on is an avenue a lot of people take, but is it really easy for everyone to eventually get?

Tips for dealing with toxic senior associates? I’m a 3rd year, and one of my seniors is incredibly difficult to work with, for instance calling me out in front of partners, telling me to compile final docs when they are incomplete, blaming me when a client gets mad, etc. I try to let most of it roll off my back (because I know partners aren’t reading her emails and I’d rather sleep ten more minutes than get into a stupid fight about how she didn’t send me a sig block) but idk it’s bugging me

Have a coworker who volunteers for work but never ends up doing it. At what point does it make sense to go to the partner to address this? We’re both midlevels, and I’m tired of having to put in even more time every weekend to pick up his slack. If this were a junior, I’d address it with them first, but this is unacceptable from a fifth/sixth year.

Partners: how many hours, including billable hours, do you need to work for a year? More than associates’ hours, or less, or about the same?

I’m generally a person who likes to keep my firm life and personal life separate. I usually only do the happy hours and what not. I like my colleagues, but I’ve just always wanted to maintain a fine line. But recently I found out that my colleagues are all going out with each other and feel left out now. I should add that I am single since that may matter. Has anyone dealt with this?

I am a junior biglaw lit associate who is extremely extroverted. Unfortunately, I’m realizing that so far litigation hasn’t been as great for extroverts as advertised. Is this just the nature of being a junior attorney in any practice anywhere? Are there specific specialties within litigation that extroverts particularly enjoy? I generally like what I do but working crazy hours in mostly isolation doesn’t seem sustainable long term for my personality type.

A partner (whom I don’t work for and barely know) followed up on a menial task, and when I replied asking for more info, he said, “I’ll give it to you tomorrow, but I thought this was done a month ago.” Wait…you mean, you thought it was done a month ago when I billed 310 hours and 6 associates left our group and we’ve only managed to replace 3 of them?
