SoCal - Better food, beaches, and entertainment. Weather is good year-round in SoCal, vs muggy in the summer and damp in the winter in Atl.
Only plus to Atl is housing will eat up less off your budget and property values will likely appreciate more.
Atlanta: earthquakes, smoke, taxes, needles and human feces on the sidewalks, expensive housing, companies are leaving.

Decision and perspective are two very different things. Thanks for your incredibly valuable contribution to the discussion though.
Depends quite a bit on your lifestyle and budget.
More info may be helpful. Atlanta is definitely dollar for dollar cheaper but SoCal has advantages, such as liberal politicians (I’m LGBT so that tends to matter more to me than most).
Atlanta I will say is a living city not a tourist city. You can tourist ATL in 2 days but living there has something for everyone. Jazz club, sure! Breweries, sure! Great food etc.
Oh v much agree! I love midtown. But state level is what I meant!

Nothing compares to SoCal
I lived in So Cal for two years and have spent the last 20 in Atlanta. California has better schools, higher taxes, higher property cost, and more entertainment and outdoors options (surf in morning and ski in afternoon). Cali is drier and seems to have higher variations in diversity and ethnic groups. The downsides are the earthquakes, smog, and wild fires. The Santa Ana winds have no equal in the ATL.
Traffic is pretty much a wash. Nothing is as bad as the 405, but going through spaghetti junction at 5:30 gives you a similar experience.
There are more sports teams in SoCal, especially hockey, but the Gwinnett Gladiators are not awful.
Arts options are better in So Cal with the Getty, museums, etc. ATL does have a few options and symphony and ballet.
Atlanta has some good fly fishing and good hikes up around north Georgia but cannot compete with the ocean.
Airports are pretty much a wash. Flights to Hawaii and Asia were better out of LAX with good domestics options out of ONT, SNA, Long Beach, and Burbank. ATL you have one airport with an airline that flies direct almost everywhere.
Public schools in Georgia can be bad, especially with special needs kids. I have to fork out a fortune annually for private schools. Property prices and taxes are much lower. College in Georgia can be very inexpensive with the hope scholarships.
Politically Cali is blue while Georgia is red red. Georgia will likely join the abortion ban either in a special session in case Abrams wins or in regular session in the spring if kemp does.
Let me know if you have specific questions. Hopefully this gives some flavor.
Oh and weed is legal in So Cal. Good luck with that in Georgia.

SoCal is the best so long as you can afford it
Which almost on one can…

Thanks folks. Two points that have me split are housing and career opportunities. Housing is GA and career opportunities, I feel, is SoCal/West Coast in general. I need both but it's one or the other situation.
Career opps in San Diego not good. LA better. But then you have to live in LA…. No thanks. Personally, I wouldn’t like Atlanta either, but at least housing is cheaper. Good luck!
