I also look at how quickly the parents are aging. I met a friend for the first time since quarantine started (they had a kid during that time) and I was like “omg what the hell happened to you?!” Impact of stress, poor sleep, and bad diet on your body is real.

I get tired of it pretty quickly. A lot of the people I went to high school and college with are starting to have kids, so the number of posts is increasing right now. It seems like the second some of them get pregnant it becomes their entire identity by their own choice, because it is all they post about.

I’m seriously going to need to start doing that. I’ve tried to suffer through it so I be genuinely happy for my friends, but enough is enough with some of them. I’m going to need to start making more child-free friends soon

Any other kid-free folks have trouble answering the often-asked question: do you have a family? In 2020, the euphemism of “family” as meaning kids seems outdated. (FYI: I have family but no kids.)

How do you all feel about splitting vacations 50/50 in a relationship and dates 60/40? I might be old fashioned but this rubs me the wrong way. I feel like I have to work 2x as hard to be taken seriously at work as a woman and pay for all kinds of crap like hair appts, nails, makeup, outfits to be viewed positively by men. Not to mention, expensive birth control, periods, and eventually potentially having a child. 50/50 makes me feel like a friend and not that valued. Thoughts?

I found out I was pregnant & made a deliberate decision not to reveal this news at work as I had concerns that this might negatively impact my Perf Review (unconscious bias). I informed my People Lead & HR, & specifically requested that they not share this news either. I now find out my PL has shared this information. I confronted her indicating this was not her news to share but she deflected (kept saying it would not affect PA) & inferred I was over-reacting. What would you do in my shoes?

Expecting our first in about 6-8 weeks. Both my wife and I work at places with strong parental leave policies. We are considering staggering our leaves (I’d take a couple weeks right when the baby is born, then go back to work until her leave runs out, then go out) to save $$ on child care. Would also have a bit of family help during the first 4-6 weeks as well. Any experienced dads think this is a bad idea?

How do you deal with draining family members? My wonderful mother takes on a LOT to keep the family life running back home (across the country with matters that can't really be helped from afar). She blows through boundaries because she needs to vent and I'm not sure how to protect my energy and still be supportive. Ideas?

Need some advice! I’ve been in a serious relationship for a year. I grew up in a traditional south Asian family where no one discussed relationships. My older sister never introduced any of her boyfriends when she dated them either. But when my parent got divorced, my mom became way more open minded about things. So I want to tell her about my boyfriend. I’m still kind of nervous though. Anyone gone through something similar/any tips to navigate the conversation? Going to see her later today.
